After over a decade of delays and billions of dollars in waste, the Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital’s second facility projects have been revitalized under the government’s decisive leadership. These initiatives aim to alleviate the burden on central healthcare systems.

On November 18th, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, alongside a government delegation, inspected the construction sites of Bach Mai Hospital’s second facility and Viet Duc Hospital’s second facility in Ninh Binh province. The Ministry of Health confirmed that the core construction of both hospitals is set to be completed by November 30th.

Nguyen Tuan Tung, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, stated: “Bach Mai Hospital’s second facility is on track for completion with unwavering determination. To date, all 82 medical devices listed for direct procurement have been contracted. Since November 12th, advanced equipment such as CT scanners, MRI machines, DSA systems, X-ray machines, ultrasound devices, and hospital beds have been transported to the site and are being installed expeditiously. All components are expected to be substantially completed by December 25th.”

Alongside construction progress, Bach Mai Hospital has developed a large-scale workforce plan, determining a minimum staff requirement of over 1,150 personnel to operate the new 1,000-bed facility.

According to the government’s plan, the construction phase of the project will be inaugurated on December 19th, with partial operations commencing thereafter. Bach Mai Hospital assures that the “one hospital – two facilities” operational model will maintain consistent quality across both locations.

Currently, both hospitals are intensively preparing infrastructure, equipment, and personnel to meet deadlines.

Regarding Viet Duc Hospital’s second facility, the hospital confirms that upon full handover of infrastructure, rooms, and equipment, they will promptly mobilize staff and commence treatment, as workforce preparations have been ongoing for years.

Equipment procurement is nearly complete, with only final installation and calibration remaining. The second facility will be phased into operation, starting at approximately 30% capacity and gradually expanding based on actual demand to prevent inefficiency.

Once operational, the second facilities of both hospitals will not only alleviate the burden on Bach Mai and Viet Duc Hospitals but also support patients from central provinces, Hanoi, and surrounding areas.
