According to Dong Nai Power Company, the second transformer of the Long Thanh Airport 110kV Substation has been successfully energized.
This milestone marks a significant step in securing power supply for Vietnam’s flagship aviation project. The completion of critical infrastructure brings the Long Thanh International Airport closer to its 2026 operational target.
At approximately 10 PM on November 24th, the second 40MVA transformer was commissioned after nearly two months of construction since its groundbreaking on September 29th.
Part of the Long Thanh Airport 110kV Substation and transmission line project, this VND 39 billion investment ensures direct and stable electricity for the airport.
Previously, in late November 2024, the first transformer and its 3.8km transmission line (VND 119 billion investment) were energized, meeting power demands during the airport’s trial operations.
With the second transformer operational, the substation’s capacity reaches 80 MVA, guaranteeing sufficient power for the airport. The project also reduces the 22 kV supply radius, minimizes energy losses, enhances voltage quality, and improves reliability for surrounding areas.
Beyond infrastructure, Dong Nai Power Company consistently supplies construction power to the airport site, averaging 730,000 kWh monthly, ensuring timely progress for critical packages. Current construction power is sourced from the 110kV Binh Son and Cam My substations.
The second 40MVA transformer was commissioned at 10 PM on November 24th after nearly two months of construction.
Located in Long Thanh District (Dong Nai), Long Thanh International Airport spans nearly 5,000 hectares with a total investment of $16 billion (VND 336.6 trillion).
Designed to handle 100 million passengers and 25 million tons of cargo annually, it will become Vietnam’s largest and most technologically advanced airport upon completion.
Notably, the airport meets ICAO’s 4F standards—the highest international rating—enabling operations of the world’s largest aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8.
Per the Prime Minister’s directive, the project remains on track for substantial completion by December 19, 2025. Long Thanh Airport has set a record with eight PM visits in three years, the latest on August 2nd.
Inside Long Thanh Airport Terminal Ahead of Its Inaugural Flight
The Long Thanh Airport terminal is in a race against time as it accelerates the installation of critical infrastructure, including steel pipe frameworks, elevators, escalators, electrical systems, and final technical components, all in preparation for its inaugural flight scheduled for December 19th.
One Month Before the Big Day: Vietnam’s $16 Billion Mega Airport Hits Major Milestone
The commissioning of the second 110kV transformer station plays a pivotal role in securing a reliable power supply for Long Thanh Airport, both for its current needs and future operations once the airport becomes fully operational.
Q3 2025 Aviation Outlook: Airline Growth Stalls, Services Diverge Sharply
The Vietnamese aviation market in Q3/2025 concluded with contrasting business results among different enterprise groups. ACV reported a significant profit surge, driven by a wave of international passengers, while airlines faced declining profits. The inauguration of Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport has reshaped the aviation service landscape.
