According to ACV, the project is part of the adjusted master plan for Lien Khuong Airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. It focuses on repairing the existing deteriorated runway, upgrading taxiways, improving drainage systems, completing technical infrastructure, and constructing foundations for specialized equipment. The lighting system and flight operation equipment, which have been in continuous use for many years, will also be comprehensively upgraded.
Alongside runway renovations, ACV plans to invest approximately VND 3.7 trillion in constructing a new passenger terminal and auxiliary facilities, aiming to increase capacity to over 5 million passengers per year by 2030. The company is committed to completing runway repairs by August 31, 2026, allowing the airport to reopen on September 1, 2026.
ACV has announced that the design documents, bidding documents for consulting supervision, and construction are nearly finalized. The contractor selection and contract signing process is expected to be completed by December 2025, ensuring the airport closure timeline remains on track.
Lam Dong provincial leaders have urged ACV to concentrate resources to potentially complete the project by August 25, 2026, in time for the airport to resume operations during the National Day celebrations on September 2. The province has also requested the company to promptly finalize the airport closure and reopening dates to facilitate local traffic and tourism planning during the interruption period.
Alternative Transportation Options During Lien Khuong Airport Closure
During the closure of Lien Khuong Airport, travelers from the North and Central regions can opt for Cam Ranh Airport (Khanh Hoa) or Buon Ma Thuot Airport (Dak Lak).
Cam Ranh Airport is approximately 160 km from Da Lat, with around 15 daily flights from Hanoi. Round-trip ticket prices range from VND 3.6 to 6.5 million, with a flight time of about 2 hours. From Cam Ranh, passengers can take a bus from Nha Trang to Da Lat, which takes 3-4 hours and costs VND 150,000 to 250,000 per trip.
Buon Ma Thuot Airport is 200 km from Da Lat, with fewer flights but convenient for Northern passengers. From here, travelers can rent a self-drive car or take a bus, with a travel time of 3-4 hours and a cost of VND 120,000 to 200,000 per trip.
For those who prefer a slower journey, trains to Nha Trang Station are another option. Tickets range from VND 400,000 to 1.5 million, with travel times of 4 to 26 hours depending on the departure point. From Nha Trang, passengers can continue by bus or self-drive through Khanh Le Pass on National Highway 27C to reach Da Lat.
Travelers from the Southern region can choose the Ho Chi Minh City – Da Lat bus route, approximately 300 km long, with prices ranging from VND 250,000 to 350,000 per trip and a travel time of 6-8 hours depending on traffic conditions.
