On the evening of November 27, the People’s Committee of Lang Son Province and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, jointly hosted the inauguration ceremony for the dedicated cargo transportation road project in the area of markers 1119 – 1120 at the Smart Border Gate of Huu Nghi (Vietnam) – Youyi Guan (China).
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Canh Toan, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lang Son Province, and Mr. Wei Yao, Chairman of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, along with representatives from relevant agencies of both countries.
The project to expand the dedicated cargo transportation road in the area of markers 1119 – 1120 at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate is part of the pilot scheme to build a smart border gate, managed by the Provincial Project Management Board. The total investment for the project exceeds 174.7 billion VND, divided into two phases: Phase 1 expands from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, and Phase 2 expands from 6 lanes to 14 lanes.
After active implementation, Phase 1 of the dedicated cargo transportation road project in the area of markers 1119 – 1120 at the Smart Border Gate of Huu Nghi (Vietnam) – Youyi Guan (China) has been completed.
The project aims to enhance trade capacity, meet the growing demand for import-export transportation, and reinforce the border gate’s role as a vital hub for transportation, trade, and diplomacy between Vietnam and China, as well as other Southeast Asian countries. It is expected to boost import-export turnover at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate, accelerate economic development in the border area, and strengthen bilateral trade efficiency.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Canh Toan, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lang Son Province, emphasized that 2025 holds special significance in the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the “Year of Vietnam-China People-to-People Exchange” as agreed upon by the leaders of both Parties and States.
The Chairman affirmed that the inauguration of the dedicated cargo transportation road in the area of markers 1119 – 1120 is a pivotal milestone, serving as the foundational step in developing the Smart Border Gate model between Huu Nghi and Youyi Guan.
To expedite progress and ensure the effectiveness of the smart border gate model, Chairman Nguyen Canh Toan called for continued collaboration between both sides. He urged relevant agencies to enhance coordination, share timely information, and swiftly agree on critical aspects such as technical standards, infrastructure connectivity, management and operational models, data exchange mechanisms, and joint inspection procedures.
Both parties pledged to expand cooperation in digital transformation, information technology, and modern border management to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of the smart border gate. These efforts aim to strengthen the friendship and practical cooperation between Lang Son and Guangxi.
At the ceremony, Mr. Wei Yao, Chairman of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, highlighted the significance of the dedicated cargo transportation road project, which plays a crucial role in enhancing cargo clearance capacity at the Huu Nghi – Youyi Guan border gate pair.
This milestone marks the establishment of a smart border gate between the two regions. Mr. Wei Yao expressed hope that the event would open new opportunities for cooperation, further advancing the smart border gate initiative. He anticipated that the official launch of the smart border gate in 2026 would inject fresh momentum into economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam.
During the program, leaders from both provinces/regions officially inaugurated the dedicated cargo transportation road. Following the announcement, delegates witnessed the first cargo vehicles crossing the border gate.
