The official website of Mitsubishi Vietnam no longer features the Outlander in its product lineup. Dealerships confirm that they have not accepted deposits for the Outlander for several months, with inventory nearly depleted and no plans from the manufacturer to replenish stock.

The Outlander’s sales decline has persisted since the beginning of the year, as reflected in reports from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA). The latest data shows zero units sold in September and October. In August, only 35 units were sold, bringing the total for the first ten months to 362—the lowest in the mid-size CUV segment. This segment is fiercely competitive, with rivals continuously upgrading, offering discounts, and introducing new variants to maintain appeal. However, the Outlander has remained stagnant for an extended period.

The model’s disappearance is largely due to its outdated positioning in the market. While competitors have launched new generations, major upgrades, or added advanced safety features, the Outlander in Vietnam remains the third-generation model. Globally, Mitsubishi has introduced the fourth-generation Outlander with a fresh design, modern technology, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option. The significant gap between the international and Vietnamese versions has led customers to turn away, especially as buyers increasingly prioritize technology and competitive pricing.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Vietnam is introducing a new model in the same segment as the Outlander. On December 1st, the company will launch the Mitsubishi Destinator, a brand-new 7-seater mid-size CUV. Although Mitsubishi has not explicitly stated that the Destinator will replace the Outlander, the timing of its launch, its segment positioning, and the Outlander’s removal from the website strongly suggest this strategy. The Destinator features a new platform, modern design, and advanced safety technology, targeting families—the same demographic the Outlander once aimed for.

The Outlander was once a compelling choice for its durability, reliable performance, and versatile 5+2 seating configuration. However, intensifying competition from models like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and a wave of imported Chinese vehicles has left the Mitsubishi model struggling. Buyers in the 900 million to over 1 billion VND price range now demand more: fresh designs, spacious interiors, advanced safety features, and extensive amenities—elements the aging Outlander struggles to deliver.
