According to the latest report from UDN (China), Apple has successfully resolved the crease issue on the screen of its iPhone Fold model and has officially moved the device into the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) phase. This stage follows the completion of multiple prototypes, with the second EVT round focusing on testing devices closely resembling the final commercial product.
Apple Produces 100 iPhone Fold Units for Testing
Typically, around 100 units are manufactured during the EVT phase. Here, hardware engineers assess component stability, electronic design functionality, and readiness for mass production.

UDN highlights that eliminating the screen crease is a significant milestone, positioning the iPhone Fold as a standout product upon launch. While the flexible display is manufactured by Samsung, Apple has independently designed the structure, material processing, and multi-layer lamination techniques. This promises a crease-free foldable screen, a feature highly anticipated by users.
Foxconn has established a dedicated production line for this device. Key suppliers, including Largan Precision, are expected to benefit. Largan Precision is likely to provide hybrid glass/plastic lenses for both the primary and ultra-wide cameras. Shin Zu Shing will supply the hinge mechanism, the most complex and costly component in foldable phones.
Potential iPhone Ultra Name, Sky-High Price Tag
Rumors suggest Apple’s first foldable iPhone, possibly named iPhone Ultra, could debut next year. Fubon Research analysts predict a staggering price of $2,399 (approximately VND 63.2 million), making it the most expensive iPhone ever.
Despite the foldable smartphone market remaining niche, analysts believe Apple’s entry could significantly reshape the landscape. Apple’s initial market position will depend on production volume, exclusive features, and annual release plans.
In Q2 2023, Huawei led global foldable phone sales, followed by Motorola with approximately 25% market share. Samsung, previously dominant, slipped to third place. Other players include Honor, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google, OnePlus, and TCL.
Apple has yet to officially confirm any details about the iPhone Fold. Current information stems primarily from supply chain sources and industry leaks, meaning specifications, naming, pricing, and launch timelines remain subject to change until the final announcement.
