Southern Air Traffic Management Company is collaborating with international contractors to urgently install specialized air traffic management equipment, ensuring readiness for the technical flight scheduled on December 15th.

As reported by VTC News, by late November 2025, the air traffic control tower—a critical component of the Long Thanh Airport project—has completed its structural framework and entered the equipment installation and fine-tuning phase.

Supporting facilities such as the technical building, VIP lounge, power station, and ATC area landscaping are being accelerated by contractors to ensure synchronized completion with the control tower.

In late November, engineers and workers rushed to complete the lotus bud-shaped crown of the tower. Designed to resemble a lotus bud—a symbol of Vietnamese culture—the tower stands as a distinctive architectural feature of the entire project.

Standing at 123 meters tall—equivalent to a 40-story building—the control tower is aptly dubbed the “brain” of Long Thanh Airport. Despite its compact 80m² base and 10-meter diameter, it houses advanced radar systems, control rooms, and navigation equipment.

With a dedicated investment of 3.5 trillion VND, the control tower underscores its strategic importance within the massive Long Thanh Airport project.

As the tallest control tower in the region, it ensures full visibility of runways, taxiways, and aprons. Located just a few hundred meters from the terminal, it will serve as the “all-seeing eye” overseeing the airport’s airspace once operational.

The control tower, along with the runways and passenger terminal, are pivotal elements ensuring Long Thanh Airport’s Phase 1 inauguration in 2026.

In late October, the Long Thanh Project Management Board, consultants, Long Thanh Air Traffic Control Center, and experts from EASAT Radar Systems Limited (UK) completed the mechanical and electronic installation of the surveillance radar system.

This surveillance radar system is a key component of Sub-Project 2, led by Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) in partnership with EASAT. It includes primary (PSR) and secondary (SSR) surveillance radars—cutting-edge technologies meeting ICAO and EUROCONTROL standards.

Once operational, the radar system will enhance air traffic management within the Ho Chi Minh Flight Information Region (FIR). Continuous, precise surveillance data will enable air traffic controllers to manage flights safely, efficiently, and economically, especially amid Vietnam’s surging air traffic.
