Woman Conceals Gold in Socks for Smuggling into Vietnam

A woman concealed gold in two pairs of socks to smuggle it from Laos into Vietnam via the Cau Treo border gate in Ha Tinh province.

On November 30th, the Border Guard Station at the Cau Treo International Border Gate (Ha Tinh Province) announced the arrest of Hoang Thi Thuan (44, residing in Ngu Lao Commune, Hung Yen Province) for suspected illegal cross-border smuggling.

According to authorities, on the morning of November 26th, Thuan entered Vietnam from Laos through the Cau Treo International Border Gate (Son Kim 1 Commune). During inspection, officials discovered 600 grams of gold concealed within her socks.

The suspect is currently in custody pending further investigation.

During questioning, Thuan failed to provide legal documentation verifying the origin of the gold.

She admitted to traveling to Vientiane, Laos, to transport the gold back to Vietnam in exchange for a fee of 7 million VND.

Authorities are currently expanding their investigation into the case.
