The prices of Honda motorcycles in the market have skyrocketed, with some models selling for millions more than the suggested retail price, capturing significant consumer attention in recent days.
Previously, Honda launched three 2026 models: Lead, SH, and Air Blade. While the suggested price for the latest Lead model ranges from 39.5 to 45.65 million VND, its retail price in Ho Chi Minh City fluctuates between 49.5 and 49.9 million VND, depending on the version, marking a difference of 4 to 10 million VND.
The 2026 Air Blade 160 is sold at dealerships for 63.85 to 65.15 million VND, approximately 7 million VND above the suggested price. The new Air Blade 125 model is priced at 46.15 to 50 million VND, 2 to 4 million VND higher than the suggested price.
The new SH 160 retails for 97.4 to 111.75 million VND, compared to the suggested price of 95.09 to 104.29 million VND, a difference of 2 to 7 million VND per unit. The new SH 125 model is available at dealerships for 80.8 to 89.35 million VND, while the suggested price is only 76.5 to 85.5 million VND.
A motorcycle shop in the Hang Xanh roundabout area (Ho Chi Minh City) has only one remaining 2026 Lead model.
Dealers attribute the surge in prices of these three Honda models to their launch during the year-end period, when consumer demand for motorcycles is at its peak, resulting in higher demand than supply. In reality, dealers have received only a limited initial batch of these models, insufficient to meet customer demand.
The director of a motorcycle company in Ho Chi Minh City speculates that Honda may require dealers to purchase other models in larger quantities before receiving more units of the new models, a strategy akin to “bundling.” Additionally, Honda might aim to allow dealers to profit significantly from these new models, as many motorcycles, especially manual transmission models, have sold slowly or at a loss over the past year.
According to reports, most Honda dealerships currently have few or no units of the 2026 Lead, Air Blade, and SH models. One dealership in the Hang Xanh roundabout area has only one 2026 Lead model. The Air Blade and SH models, launched later, are still available for delivery, but in limited quantities.
Meanwhile, some Honda dealers note that due to the high prices of the latest models, most customers are only browsing and waiting for prices to drop before making a purchase.
