According to the Industrial Property Gazette No. 452, Volume A – Issue 2, recently published by the Intellectual Property Office, two industrial design protection applications were filed by VinFast Production and Business Joint Stock Company. These applications pertain to two entirely new design models: a sedan and an SUV. The filings reveal that the designs were created by Lee Jae Hoon (New Zealand) and Dimitri Vicedomini (Italy), both of whom have collaborated with VinFast on previous projects.
The accompanying images in the gazette showcase the new SUV with a large, robust, and boxy body. The front grille is prominently large, paired with slim headlights.
Meanwhile, the new sedan features a fastback coupe silhouette with a sleek roofline extending towards the rear, giving it a youthful and sporty appearance compared to conventional sedans. The proportions suggest a length exceeding 5 meters, typical of large sedans. The front-end design, grille, and overall styling evoke similarities to the Lux A model previously sold by VinFast during its gasoline-powered era.
Notably, both designs lack the signature ‘V’ logo, sparking speculation about whether these models belong to the Lạc Hồng product line.
The presence of large grilles—unnecessary for pure electric vehicles—suggests these could be extended-range electric vehicles (EREV) or hybrids, aligning with market trends and recent rumors of VinFast exploring hybrid configurations to diversify customer options.
In addition to these two models, VinFast has also registered a new SUV design featuring a distinct grille and wheels, retaining the ‘V’ logo. The designer, Roberto Michele Piatti of Torino Design, is known for creating several iconic VinFast models. Online speculation suggests this could be an electric version of the once-popular Lux SA.
VinFast has not yet released official details regarding these models, including names, specifications, or production plans. However, the design registrations indicate the company’s ongoing expansion of its product lineup and potential preparations for a new vehicle generation to support its long-term strategy.
