Recently, the Traffic Police Department announced a list of 67 motorcycle and car violations detected through the AI camera system. The two most common violations are motorcyclists running red lights and not wearing helmets.

From 12:00 PM on December 3rd to 12:00 PM on December 4th, the AI camera at km20 on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway recorded 20,031 vehicles passing through, with an average speed of 79 km/h. Authorities identified cases of drivers not wearing seatbelts, and notifications have been sent to vehicle owners for processing as per regulations.

Additionally, data extracted from AI cameras piloted in Hanoi’s inner city (at the intersection of Pham Van Bach and Hoang Quan Chi streets) automatically detected 20 cases of motorcyclists not wearing helmets. The Traffic Police Department also identified 39 instances of red-light violations.

These cases have been forwarded to the Hanoi Police and relevant units for violation processing. The detailed list is as follows:

What are the penalties for motorcyclists not wearing helmets and running red lights under Decree 168?

For the two most common violations—driving motorcycles without helmets and disregarding traffic light signals—the penalties are as follows, according to Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP effective from January 1, 2025.

Under points h and i, clause 2, Article 7 of Decree 168, individuals operating motorcycles, motorbikes, or similar vehicles who commit the following violations will be fined between 400,000 VND and 600,000 VND:

h) Not wearing a helmet or wearing a helmet without fastening the strap correctly while driving on public roads;

i) Carrying passengers who are not wearing helmets or wearing helmets without fastening the strap correctly, except in cases of transporting emergency patients, children under 6 years old, or escorting individuals violating the law.

Under point c, clause 7, Article 7 of Decree 168, motorcyclists who disregard traffic light signals will be fined between 4 million VND and 6 million VND. Additionally, violators will have 4 points deducted from their driver’s license, as per point b, clause 13, Article 7.

Under point b, clause 10, Article 7 of Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP, motorcyclists who disregard traffic light signals and cause accidents will be fined between 10 million VND and 14 million VND. Simultaneously, violators will have 10 points deducted from their driver’s license.

How to check for traffic violations from home

There are several ways to check for traffic violations from home. The two most common methods are through the Traffic Police Department’s website and the VNeTraffic app.

Additionally, citizens can check violations via ZaloPay by following these steps:

Step 1: On the Zalo app, select the Explore tab, search for “ZaloPay,” or open the ZaloPay app already installed on your phone. If not installed, download it from the App Store (iOS) or CH Play (Android) and log in with your Zalo account.

Step 2: Find the “Traffic Violation Check” feature by selecting “All” on the main interface of ZaloPay. Scroll down to the “Travel – Delivery” section and choose “Traffic Violation Check.”

Step 3: Select the vehicle type and enter the license plate number. Once all information is entered, click “Check Violations.”

Step 4: The system will process the request within a few seconds and return results if violations are found. The displayed information will include the time and location of the violation, the specific violation type, the recording authority, and the status (processed or not).
