BIM Energy and Evolution Data Centres Sign MoU to Deliver Renewable Energy for Data Centers in Ho Chi Minh City

BIM Energy, a leading renewable energy developer and member of the BIM Group in Vietnam, has joined forces with Evolution Data Centres (EDC), Southeast Asia's sustainable data center platform. Together, they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on supplying renewable electricity through a Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA). This partnership marks a significant step towards a greener future, combining BIM Energy's expertise in renewable energy with EDC's commitment to sustainable data center operations.

The agreement aims to supply green energy from BIM Energy’s solar and wind projects to a large-scale data center being developed by EDC in Ho Chi Minh City, with an estimated investment of $500 million. The energy demand for this complex is projected at 50-100MW, serving cloud computing platforms, AI infrastructure, and high-tech applications requiring stringent clean energy standards.

DPPA: A Milestone for Vietnam’s Green Digital Infrastructure

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate to assess technical and commercial options for implementing the DPPA mechanism, enabling EDC to directly purchase renewable energy from BIM Energy through the national grid. This pioneering step in Vietnam marks the first direct cooperation between a domestic energy company and an international data center operator—a rapidly growing sector in Southeast Asia.

As Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a regional hub for high-tech, semiconductors, and digital economy, sustainable data centers are a critical infrastructure requirement. Renewable energy, coupled with the DPPA mechanism, plays a vital role in attracting global cloud and AI investors while aligning with the government’s low-emission growth strategy.

Mr. Darren Webb, Co-founder and CEO of Evolution Data Centres, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with BIM Energy to ensure EDC’s clients access large-scale renewable energy—a critical factor for global cloud and AI operators in Vietnam.

“Vietnam is entering a robust growth phase in its data center market, similar to Malaysia and Thailand in recent years. By combining Vietnam’s natural advantages in clean energy with a capable partner like BIM Energy, we see a significant opportunity to reduce emissions and build sustainable data infrastructure in the region,” Mr. Webb shared.

Experts highlight Vietnam’s emergence as a new data center hub in Southeast Asia. Its renewable energy advantages, strategic location, and young workforce position it as a key player in the region’s cloud and AI landscape.

The BIM Energy-EDC partnership demonstrates Vietnam’s tangible steps to meet its energy demands while ensuring low emissions—a prerequisite for global tech corporations. If mechanisms like DPPA are further promoted, Vietnam is poised to become not only a new data center market but also a regional green digital infrastructure hub in the next decade.

BIM Energy: Green Capabilities Aligned with International Data Center Standards

EDC’s choice of BIM Energy reflects the latter’s operational capabilities, scale, and reliability in renewable energy systems developed over the years.

BIM Energy currently operates over 500MW of solar and wind power, generating nearly 1 billion kWh annually—equivalent to the consumption of 300,000 households. Its integrated renewable energy complex in Ninh Thuan, combining salt production with solar and wind power, is one of Vietnam’s most efficient models.

The company aims to increase its renewable energy capacity to at least 1,700MW by 2027, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy and role as a leading clean energy provider for Vietnam’s energy transition.

These criteria align with large-scale data centers’ requirements for stable, large-scale clean energy, DPPA implementation, ESG compliance, and long-term efficiency.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Vinh, CEO of BIM Energy, emphasized that the partnership with Evolution Data Centres is a significant step in positioning BIM’s wind and solar projects as clean energy sources for Vietnam’s digital infrastructure. BIM Energy plans to expand DPPA-based collaborations, diversifying its customer portfolio beyond EVN and enhancing business sustainability.

“DPPA creates significant opportunities for both sellers and buyers, helping international companies meet green energy standards while ensuring efficient renewable energy project utilization. This is crucial for Vietnam to attract foreign investment in cloud, AI, and sustainable data centers,” Mr. Vinh noted.

BIM Group: Committed to Long-Term Sustainable Development

Over 31 years, BIM Group has consistently pursued a philosophy of sustainable development—long-term investment, environmental respect, and community engagement. For BIM, sustainability is not just an ESG requirement but a long-standing ideal driving green investment, circular economy models, and meaningful contributions to national green energy capacity.

In renewable energy, BIM Group sees it as the backbone of the future economy and a strategic component for Vietnam’s deeper integration into the global digital value chain.

The EDC partnership exemplifies this approach. BIM Energy is evolving from a wind and solar developer into a clean energy provider for data centers and AI infrastructure—sectors critical to Vietnam’s competitiveness in the coming decades.
