Early on the morning of December 6th, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) announced that at 9:42 PM on December 5th, after five days and nights of urgent construction, EVNSPC and An Giang Power Company, in collaboration with related units, successfully energized the 110kV overhead line. This effort resolved the fault in the 110kV Ha Tien – Phu Quoc submarine cable, fully restoring power to all customers in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. The restoration was completed five days ahead of the initial schedule.

Officers, engineers, and workers from EVNSPC, An Giang Power Company, and related units worked tirelessly day and night to complete the project.

The 110kV overhead line was constructed from the existing onshore cable connection point in Ha Tien to the fault location, spanning four tower sections. The project was executed and energized within a short timeframe, promptly restoring power to support production and business activities on the “Pearl Island” of Phu Quoc following the incident.

According to EVNSPC, this achievement was made possible through the decisive leadership of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, the support of provincial departments and agencies, and the cooperation of local authorities, businesses, and residents in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. The Southern Power System Dispatch Center (SSO) played a crucial role in devising power supply plans post-incident, conducting calculations, and preparing necessary conditions for re-energizing the submarine cable line immediately after construction.

Additionally, the dedication and high efforts of the leadership, officers, and employees of EVNSPC, An Giang Power Company, and related units were instrumental in resolving the issue over the past few days.

Following the restoration of power to the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, An Giang Power Company continued to coordinate with relevant units to repair the damaged cable segment, restoring it to its original state.

Previously, at 1:15 PM on November 29th, a fault occurred on the 110kV Ha Tien – Phu Quoc line, causing the Phu Quoc 110kV substation to lose power and affecting electricity supply to the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone.

It was reported that Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Company was constructing a pile platform within the safety corridor of the 110kV Ha Tien – Phu Quoc submarine cable along the Ha Tien coastline. The steel pile driving process caused the fault in the 110kV submarine cable supplying power to the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone.

The 110kV Ha Tien – Phu Quoc submarine cable fault was restored five days ahead of schedule.

Immediately after the incident, to maintain power supply and ensure the safe operation of the electrical system, An Giang Power Company implemented an emergency power supply plan. Priority was given to critical customers through the 110/22kV Nam Phu Quoc substation via the 22kV medium-voltage grid. Large customers with self-generating capacity were encouraged to operate their generators to utilize remaining capacity and serve residential customers.

EVNSPC also mobilized 20 mobile diesel generators from member power companies, with a total capacity of 3.5 MW, to increase power supply to Phu Quoc.
