According to the conclusion of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the Ben Thanh – Can Gio metro line is a pivotal project in urban transportation development and regional connectivity. It plays a crucial role in establishing a new strategic transportation axis, aligning with the developmental directives of the Party and the State.
This project is expected to meet the growing demand for passenger transportation, foster urban development, and drive socio-economic growth, all while supporting Ho Chi Minh City’s vision for spatial expansion.
As a result, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has approved the investment policy for this project. They have also tasked the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee with directing the City People’s Committee to oversee relevant departments and agencies in meticulously reviewing the investment procedures and processes, ensuring strict compliance with legal regulations.
During implementation, rigorous inspection and supervision measures must be enforced to guarantee the project’s feasibility and timeline. Additionally, measures should be taken to minimize impacts on protective forests, landscapes, ecosystems, and the city’s historical sites.

It will cross the Soai Rap River and run along Rung Sac Road, terminating near the Can Gio coastal urban area.
The project is designed as a double-track railway with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm and a design speed of 350 km/h.
