As of the morning of December 6th, the live hog market across Vietnam recorded prices ranging from 57,000 to 61,000 VND/kg. Pig prices have continued their upward trend in recent days.

Pig prices are heating up ahead of anticipated high demand at year-end.

Mr. Nguyễn Thế Chinh, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Market Management Board in Hà Nam, Ninh Bình province, reported that live hog prices at the market are trading between 59,000 and 60,000 VND/kg. As Tết approaches, prices are expected to rise further due to increased food processing demand, while supply has been impacted by recent diseases and natural disasters.

Currently, the market trades approximately 1,000 pigs daily. Despite rising prices, Mr. Chinh anticipates busier trading as Tết nears.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phùng Đức Tiến, the livestock industry must aim for exports in addition to meeting domestic demand. Toward year-end, pork and poultry prices tend to rise…

However, Deputy Minister Tiến emphasized the need to ensure stable supply and prices to prevent excessive increases, maintaining a stable consumer price index.

“We must avoid a situation where people have to buy pork at stabilized prices for Tết preparations,” said Mr. Tiến.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reports that pig farming is gradually recovering from African swine fever, though slowly due to storm impacts, flooding, and cautious restocking. Poultry farming has seen significant growth thanks to favorable production conditions and effective disease control, with no major outbreaks and stable product prices.

By the end of November 2025, the national pig population increased by 0.3% year-on-year, while poultry increased by 2.8%.
