Recently, Saigontourist Cable Television Company (SCTV) officially announced the discontinuation of 5 K+ channels on its platform, effective January 1, 2026.

K+’s withdrawal was anticipated, following prolonged inefficiency and consistent financial losses.

Specifically, according to audited reports, as of December 31, 2020, K+ accumulated a total loss of 3,571 billion VND, driving the owner’s equity into a negative balance of 3,227 billion VND. By the end of 2021, the total accumulated loss escalated to 3,800 billion VND.

Amidst these challenges, Canal+ (France), a major shareholder holding 49% of VSTV—the operator of K+ in Vietnam—has repeatedly considered exiting the Vietnamese market.

Since late 2025, K+ has significantly scaled down its operations. In early October, K+ abruptly closed nearly all its K+ Store outlets nationwide. The company also ceased new sales of satellite receiver (DTH) and internet receiver (TV Box) packages.

K+ ceases operations from January 1, 2026

By November 20, service renewal options were drastically limited, offering only monthly extensions or a maximum extension until December 31, 2025.

Throughout December, major distribution partners such as FPT Play, MyTV, and TV360 collectively halted new sales and renewals of K+ packages on their platforms.

Launched in 2009, K+ initially made a significant impact by securing exclusive broadcasting rights for numerous top global football leagues. However, the company was criticized for its slow transition to the OTT model and severely impacted by piracy and copyright infringement.

Current K+ subscribers are advised to contact relevant entities for case-specific support. Consumers are also urged to avoid illegal streaming sites and carefully verify package details and broadcast sources before subscribing to any service.

Regarding English Premier League broadcasting rights in Vietnam, an FPT Play representative confirmed that the company currently holds the rights to broadcast the league.
