Apple has recently updated its list of obsolete devices, marking several iPhone models that will no longer receive official repair support or software updates, including critical security patches.
According to cybersecurity experts, the primary risk of using devices without updates lies in the emergence of new vulnerabilities. Jake Moore, Global Cybersecurity Advisor at ESET, warns that hackers swiftly exploit these weaknesses, making older models easy targets for malware, unauthorized access, and bank account theft.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 11
In the latest obsolescence list, Apple has completely discontinued support for the first-generation iPhone SE and the iPhone 6s series. Older models such as the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5C, 5S, 6, and 6 Plus were already unsupported.
Additionally, Apple has categorized several devices as “vintage,” meaning they receive limited support and may only get critical security updates in specific cases. This group includes the iPhone X, iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
For users still relying on these devices, upgrading is essential to ensure a stable experience and minimize security risks. Apple’s detailed list of obsolete and vintage devices is available on their official support page.
