On the morning of December 9th, the 10th session of the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Council (term 2021-2026) commenced its 8th meeting, discussing critical socio-economic development topics.

A highlight of the session was the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee’s proposal for a resolution authorizing them to execute the extension of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport via a public-private partnership (PPP). The expanded metro line will traverse both Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the documents presented at the meeting, the extended metro line will follow the planned route, starting from Station S0 (Tan Van), crossing the Dong Nai River, and then following National Highway 1 to connect to Station SC at the Provincial Administrative Center. From there, the line will continue along the planned Bien Hoa – Long Thanh railway corridor, parallel to Provincial Road 771, intersecting the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway, connecting to Station SA, and then branching into the dedicated railway route leading to Long Thanh Airport.

The extended metro line spans approximately 41 kilometers, divided into three segments: Station S0 to Station SC (6.1 km), Station SC to Station SA (28.2 km), and the airport segment (7.1 km), running parallel to the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh metro line and the North-South high-speed railway.

The preliminary total investment is over 60.26 trillion VND, including approximately 4.323 trillion VND for compensation, support, and resettlement. The project is expected to be completed by 2029.

According to the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee, current transportation links between the province and Ho Chi Minh City primarily rely on roads. With the rapid increase in vehicle numbers, major routes such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51, and key arterial roads frequently experience congestion. Despite ongoing inter-regional projects like expressways and ring roads, infrastructure still falls short of actual demand, especially with the upcoming operation of Long Thanh Airport.

Therefore, the province emphasizes the urgent need to implement large-scale transportation projects such as metro lines, high-speed railways, and inter-regional overpasses to reduce travel time, enhance urban connectivity, and shorten the journey between the country’s two major airports.
