Nam A Bank has announced that customers must update their information in full when opening and using payment accounts to avoid disruptions, in compliance with the State Bank of Vietnam’s regulations effective January 1, 2026.
Individual customers who are Vietnamese citizens or Vietnamese nationals with undetermined citizenship must update details such as occupation, personal identification numbers, and permanent residence addresses.
For Vietnamese citizens, valid identification documents include Citizen Identity Cards (CCCD), ID cards, or electronic ID cards. Minors under 14 without ID cards must provide birth certificates.
Foreign nationals must also update their information, including passport numbers or identification details issued by foreign authorities, visa numbers, or visa exemption documents (for those residing in Vietnam).

Banks urge customers to promptly update their information to prevent account disruptions.
Techcombank has also announced that, starting January 1, 2026, certain identification documents will no longer be accepted for transaction verification. Customers must update their chip-embedded CCCD at Techcombank branches to ensure uninterrupted service.
According to Circular 17/2024/TT-NHNN, Circular 18/2024/TT-NHNN, and the Identity Card Law 26/2023/QH15, some identification documents will be invalid for bank transactions from 2026. Techcombank advises customers to update their information promptly to continue using bank accounts, cards, and related services.
Another bank, Agribank, has announced it will stop accepting passports for transactions from January 1, 2026.
From 2026, Agribank will no longer accept passports for transactions on payment accounts for Vietnamese citizens across all channels. Customers must use chip-embedded CCCD, ID cards, or electronic ID cards for transaction verification.
To avoid transaction interruptions, Agribank customers currently using passports as identification must visit branches nationwide to update their information with chip-embedded CCCD/ID cards/electronic ID cards before January 1, 2026.
