Prime Minister: Long Thanh Airport to Welcome Its First Official Flight on December 19

On the afternoon of December 14th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the construction site of the Long Thanh International Airport project and several expressway projects connecting to the airport. During his visit, the Prime Minister inspected the progress, encouraged the workforce, and presented gifts to the teams involved. This marked his ninth inspection of the Long Thanh Airport project.

The Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 investment project has a total investment of nearly 110 trillion VND, with a construction period from 2020 to 2026, comprising 4 sub-projects.

Over the past period, the Party, National Assembly, and Government have paid special attention to and directed the focus on completing the Long Thanh International Airport and its connecting transport system.

It is expected that Long Thanh Airport will conduct a technical flight on December 15 and its first official flight on December 19, 2025.

To date, according to reports from relevant agencies, sub-project 1 (headquarters of management agencies) is under construction and expected to be completed before December 19.

For sub-project 2 (air traffic management facilities), the air traffic control tower is being finalized and equipped to ensure technical flight operations on December 19 and full completion as per the overall project schedule.

Sub-project 3 (construction of essential airport facilities) includes 15 packages, with 3 completed and 12 under construction. Besides runways 1 and 2, connecting roads, and other components (passenger terminal, taxiways, apron, and runway 2) are being implemented synchronously to ensure basic construction completion before December 19, enabling technical flight operations on December 19 and commercial operations by mid-2026.

For sub-project 4 (construction of other service facilities), priority projects for Phase 1 operations are being actively implemented by investors, aiming for substantial completion before December 19 to ensure synchronized operation as per the overall project schedule.

The Prime Minister also inspected the progress of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway project connecting to Long Thanh Airport. The project has a total length of approximately 53.7 km, with an adjusted total investment of 21,551 billion VND, divided into 3 sub-projects.

To date, sub-project 3 (19.5 km, in Ho Chi Minh City) has been completed and opened for technical traffic on April 19, 2025. Sub-project 1 (16 km, in Dong Nai Province) has reached 61% construction volume. Sub-project 2 (18.2 km, in Dong Nai Province) has achieved 72% volume, with units striving for technical traffic opening of the main route on December 19, 2025, and project completion in 2025.

Meanwhile, connecting roads T1 and T2 to Long Thanh Airport, with a length of 7.8 km, have also reached 99% completion.

At a meeting with ministries, localities, and agencies on the project site, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged and praised the efforts, responsibility, and creativity of ministries, localities, investors, contractors, consultants, supervisors, and all officers, engineers, and workers on-site. They have overcome numerous difficulties, worked tirelessly day and night to achieve significant results.

The Prime Minister assessed that the project is changing daily, weekly, and monthly. To date, 8 critical components have been substantially completed, including the passenger terminal (the airport’s heart), air traffic control tower (the airport’s brain), runways (core infrastructure), 80MW power infrastructure, water supply, fuel supply, communication systems, and access roads. Passenger boarding bridges and airport landscaping are being urgently finalized.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of National Defense to assign Military Region 7 and other units to support until project completion. The Police force ensures security and order in the project area.

For specific tasks, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with ACV, Vietnam Airlines, and relevant agencies to finalize the detailed plan for the technical flight on December 15 and the first official flight on December 19.

The Ministry of Public Security directed the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department and relevant agencies to coordinate with Dong Nai Province, ACV, and Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to ensure security, safety, fire prevention, and rescue conditions.

Dong Nai Province directed investors to urgently complete fuel pipeline construction for aircraft, ensuring synchronization with commercial operation plans. The Department of Construction was urged to complete design approval for sub-project 4 components, reporting difficulties to the Ministry of Construction for support.

Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet were urged to complete hangar projects. Relevant agencies were directed to complete related components, ensure progress, and improve infrastructure landscape and environment.

The Ministries of Finance, Public Security, Agriculture and Environment, and Dong Nai Province were requested to direct sub-project 1 investors to complete construction, industrial cleaning, and project registration for inauguration.

With limited time and significant remaining work, the Prime Minister urged maximum efforts, with the Project Management Board developing specific plans. He emphasized avoiding errors and proposed rewarding outstanding individuals and collectives.

For connecting projects, especially the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, the Prime Minister directed Dong Nai Province to accelerate land clearance (5 remaining households) and mobilize resources to complete sub-project 1, ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety.

Ho Chi Minh City directed investors and contractors to complete sub-project 3 components for synchronized operation as planned.

The Ministry of Construction directed Project Management Unit 85 and contractors to increase resources, accelerate construction, and complete the project in 2025, ensuring technical design, aesthetics, and safety.

For medium and long-term goals, the Prime Minister directed ministries, agencies, and localities to implement General Secretary To Lam’s conclusions during his project visit (November 13, 2025), and continue implementing relevant directives. He emphasized developing Long Thanh Airport as an aviation economic center, creating a new growth pole, not just operating an airport.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that all involved parties will continue striving to urgently complete and operate the Long Thanh International Airport, with seamless connectivity, developing aviation economics and ecosystem as directed by General Secretary To Lam.
