Today (December 15), a technical flight was conducted to comprehensively assess the conditions of Long Thanh International Airport.

The Vietnam Aviation Authority announced that, according to the plan for the first official flight on December 19, 2025, Vietnam Airlines will operate a Code E aircraft (Boeing 787) on the Noi Bai – Long Thanh – Noi Bai route, carrying high-ranking Party and State leaders (not a commercial flight).

Subsequently, Vietjet and Bamboo Airways will use Code C aircraft (A320/321) for the Tan Son Nhat – Long Thanh – Tan Son Nhat route. These flights will only include flight crews and technical staff.

The Vietnam Aviation Authority has requested Vietjet and Bamboo Airways to review and calculate sufficient fuel for the Tan Son Nhat – Long Thanh – Tan Son Nhat route. If additional fuel is required, airlines should coordinate with SKYPEC for aviation fuel services.

Additionally, airlines must ensure aircraft maintenance and repair services or collaborate with service providers if necessary.

Vietjet and Bamboo Airways are required to proactively coordinate with Long Thanh International Airport to prepare runway and apron conditions as per their requirements.

They must also prepare aircraft, flight crews, and technical staff as needed. Airlines should review and update technical data and parameters of Long Thanh International Airport (as published in aviation news) to support flights on December 19.

The Vietnam Aviation Authority has also urged Vietjet and Bamboo Airways to work with aviation service providers to finalize service plans for the December 19 flights.

Simultaneously, airlines must coordinate with relevant agencies such as the Vietnam Aviation Authority for flight permits and the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security for aviation security procedures as required.

“Airlines must report to the Authority by December 16 on their preparation status, plans, and service arrangements for the December 19 flights as per the outlined scenario,” the Vietnam Aviation Authority emphasized.

According to the scenario and plan submitted by the Ministry of Construction to the Prime Minister, the first official flight to Long Thanh International Airport will only be executed after the technical flight ensures all safety, technical, and operational requirements are met.

Today (December 15), a technical flight was conducted to comprehensively assess the conditions of Long Thanh International Airport. The technical flight will use a Code E aircraft, expected to be a Boeing 787—the largest aircraft currently operated by Vietnamese airlines. The aircraft will depart from Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), land at Long Thanh Airport, and then return to Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The technical flight will not carry passengers or cargo, with participants limited to the flight crew and technical team. Vietnam Airlines has been assigned to conduct this flight.
