Today’s Coffee Prices (Dec 15): Continuous Decline – What Are Coffee Giants Saying?

Coffee prices kicked off the new week on a low note, with even the 100,000 VND/kg mark failing to hold.

Today, December 15th, global coffee exchanges in London and New York will open in the afternoon (Vietnam time) with reference prices of $3,999 per ton for Robusta and $8,140 per ton for Arabica for the March 2026 futures contract.

No Anomalies Observed

Domestic coffee prices have dropped below the VND 100,000 per kg mark, with many regions quoting prices between VND 96,000 and VND 99,000 per kg.

This price level is unfamiliar to coffee holders, as prices have consistently remained above VND 110,000 per kg for an extended period.

Speaking to Bao Nguoi Lao Dong, Mr. Do Ha Nam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) and CEO of Intimex Group, Vietnam’s largest green coffee exporter, stated that this development is not unusual and was anticipated.

Coffee prices cool down amid ample supply

Mr. Do Ha Nam explained that given the stable harvest, balanced supply and demand, and cooling policies in major import markets like the US and Europe, the average Robusta price for the 2025-2026 crop year is expected to hover around $4,000 per ton.

How Low Will Coffee Prices Go?

“The lowest predicted price for Robusta is around $3,500 per ton, while Vietnam’s domestic price is unlikely to fall below VND 80,000 per kg until May 2026, when Brazil’s harvest begins,” said the VICOFA Vice Chairman.

According to Mr. Nam, although lower than the record-breaking 2024-2025 season, these prices are significantly higher than previous years and remain favorable compared to production costs.

The key factor maintaining these prices is the financial stability of farmers in Vietnam and Brazil, enabling them to hold their stocks and avoid flooding the market, thus preventing a steep price decline.

At the international coffee conference held in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this December, experts predicted a potential oversupply crisis and sharp price drop in the 2026-2027 season as global efforts to expand coffee cultivation areas and production capitalize on the recent high-price period.
