According to the Government’s official portal, Vietnam has officially welcomed its 20 millionth international tourist. Specifically, on the afternoon of December 15, 2025, at Phu Quoc International Airport, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of An Giang Province, solemnly hosted the ceremony to welcome the 20 millionth international tourist to Vietnam.

This marks the first time in 65 years of development that Vietnam’s tourism industry has achieved the milestone of 20 million international visitors in a single year, signifying a new phase of recovery and deep integration into the global tourism market. It underscores Vietnam’s position, reputation, and competitive edge in the global tourism landscape.

Amid the gradual recovery of global tourism, Vietnam’s tourism growth stands out as a highlight. In 2025, the number of international visitors to Vietnam increased by approximately 21%, far surpassing the global tourism growth rate of 5% and the Asia-Pacific region’s 8%.

Compared to pre-COVID-19 levels, Vietnam’s tourism has recovered to over 110%, while global tourism has only reached about 90%.

With a growth rate of around 21%, Vietnam’s tourism has been recognized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) as one of the fastest-growing destinations globally. In contrast, global tourism grew by only 5% in 2025, with the Asia-Pacific region at 8%, and worldwide tourism recovering to just 90% of pre-pandemic levels.

2025 also marked significant international recognition as Vietnam was honored for the 6th time as the “World’s Leading Heritage Destination” and for the 7th time as “Asia’s Leading Destination” by the World Travel Awards. Additionally, numerous prestigious awards were bestowed upon local destinations and tourism businesses in Vietnam.

According to the latest data from the General Statistics Office, in the first 11 months of the year, Vietnam welcomed over 19.1 million international visitors, a 20.9% increase compared to the same period last year. This is the highest figure ever recorded.

In November 2025 alone, Vietnam received nearly 2 million international visitors, up 14.2% from October 2025 and 15.6% from November 2024. This was the third-highest month for international arrivals this year, following January and March, both of which exceeded 2 million visitors.

Notably, November 2025 saw robust growth from North American markets. Visitor numbers from the United States increased by 30.5%, and from Canada by 55.9% compared to the previous month.

European markets also showed remarkable growth, rising by 51.2% compared to October. Significant increases were recorded in several countries: Russia (37%), the UK (31.8%), France (46.7%), Germany (51.4%), Italy (88.9%), and Switzerland (47.3%).

The strong growth in North American and European markets in November reflects the increasing trend of long-haul travelers visiting Vietnam during the peak year-end tourism season.
