The area surrounding Ben Thanh Market is an iconic destination in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting nearly every visitor to the city named after Uncle Ho. Notably, the upgraded intersection and the emerging metro station lay the foundation for a future multi-line metro network, further solidifying its status as the “heart of the heart.”

Ben Thanh Station is planned to become the natural convergence point for future metro lines. From this station, Metro Line 1, Metro Line 2, Metro Line 3A, Metro Line 4, and the high-speed rail line Ben Thanh – Can Gio will directly connect, forming Ho Chi Minh City’s multi-line urban rail network.

Among these five lines, Metro Line 1 is the only one already in operation. After nearly a year of service, Metro Line 1 has reduced traffic congestion, shortened travel times, and increased passenger flow through the city center. Ben Thanh Station serves as the primary transfer hub, preparing to connect with subsequent lines.

Following Metro Line 1, Metro Line 2 spans over 11 km, includes 11 stations and the Tham Luong depot, with a total investment of nearly 48,000 billion VND. Construction is expected to begin in January 2026, just one month from now. The line will connect the city center with the Northwest area, alleviating pressure on major roads and reinforcing Ben Thanh as a central transfer hub.

Metro Line 3A connects the city center with the Southwest area via Vo Van Kiet Street, supporting the development of new urban areas and seaports. Ben Thanh Station serves as the starting point, facilitating multi-directional passenger travel.

Metro Line 4 spans over 47 km, with more than 25 km underground and nearly 22 km elevated, passing through central areas like Nhieu Loc Canal and Nguyen Van Troi, and connecting to the Hiep Phuoc Urban Area. Proposed by Sovico, the project will reduce traffic pressure and solidify Ben Thanh as a major transfer hub.

The Ben Thanh – Can Gio line spans over 54 km, with a total investment of more than 102,000 billion VND, using trains designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h. Proposed by VinSpeed, the project broke ground on December 19, 2025, with commercial operations expected to begin in Q3 2028.

To prepare infrastructure for this increasingly vital area, Ho Chi Minh City has invested tens of thousands of billions of VND in upgrading the core area. Ben Thanh Metro Station, already located in the “heart of the heart,” is now becoming the center of metro intersections, playing a crucial role as multiple new lines converge here in the coming phases.

With an investment of approximately 4,800 billion VND, Ben Thanh Metro Station is becoming a new symbol of Ho Chi Minh City’s transportation system, thanks to its large scale and central location. The project marks a turning point for urban infrastructure as the metro network operates, transforming the area into one of the city’s most important transfer points.

Alongside the station, Le Loi Street has been renovated to harmonize with Ben Thanh Station’s surroundings, improving traffic flow, directly connecting metro lines, and creating a convenient travel corridor that fosters commercial development.

Nguyen Hue Walking Street directly connects with Ben Thanh Station, enhancing the vibrancy and commercial appeal of the central area.
