According to Car News China, CATL, a leading Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems, has achieved a significant milestone in production line automation.

The company has officially integrated advanced humanoid robots into its new energy vehicle battery manufacturing process. These robotic workers are now operational at CATL’s state-of-the-art factory complex in Zhongzhou.

Named “Moz,” these robots represent more than just standard automation; they signify a leap forward in embodied artificial intelligence within modern industrial settings.

CATL reports that Moz robots have been deployed in end-of-line (EOL) testing and direct current resistance (DCR) checks—critical quality control steps before products leave the factory.

Replacing humans in these tasks is a strategic move. Previously, workers had to manually connect high-voltage test leads to specific battery positions, a precise but hazardous task.

Moz eliminates safety risks associated with high-voltage sparks and ensures consistent quality, optimizing overall system efficiency. Equipped with advanced vision-language-action (VLA) models, Moz excels in environmental perception and task generalization, handling complex operations with agility.

Moz is a CATL-developed robot designed for electric vehicle battery assembly and production.

CATL highlights Moz’s superiority through three core strengths: adaptability, flexibility, and real-world performance.

Its precise adaptability allows Moz to detect material misalignments or connection changes, adjusting its movements in real-time to ensure absolute accuracy.

During cable harness installation and removal, Moz demonstrates flexibility by automatically modulating grip force, securing connections without damaging components.

Combining AI with precise mechanics, Moz achieves over 99% connection success rates in real production environments, matching the efficiency of skilled human workers.

“Moz has become indispensable on our production lines,” stated a CATL representative. “Beyond its primary tasks, it autonomously monitors cable connections, reports anomalies to reduce defects, and seamlessly switches between testing stages.”

When producing multiple battery models simultaneously, Moz triples daily output volumes while maintaining flawless stability.

Developed by Spirit AI, a CATL ecosystem robotics company, Moz is powered by CATL’s own batteries, showcasing a successful closed-loop supply chain collaboration.

To translate stringent production requirements into actionable specifications, CATL collaborated across departments to create a roadmap balancing future technology vision with practical implementation.
