The Quang Ngai – Hoai Nhon Expressway project stands as a pivotal national initiative, integral to the Eastern North-South Expressway network for the 2021-2025 phase. Spanning 88 kilometers, it traverses Quang Ngai (60.3 km) and Gia Lai (27.7 km) provinces, with an investment exceeding 20 trillion VND. Commenced on January 1, 2023, the project is spearheaded by Project Management Unit 2 (Ministry of Construction), with Deo Ca Group leading the construction consortium.

In its initial phase, the expressway is designed for four lanes, with a cruising speed of 80 km/h. Despite the original timeline targeting completion by Q3 2026, the project is on track to finish eight months ahead of schedule—a remarkable feat given the extensive workload, challenging terrain, and adverse weather conditions.

After over 1,000 days of uninterrupted construction, involving 4,000 engineers and workers, most key segments are complete. The roadway has been uniformly paved with asphalt, and safety installations—signage, road markings, and surface cleaning—are nearing completion, preparing the expressway for operation.

Recognized for its intricate technical infrastructure, the expressway features 77 bridges, 586 culverts, and 81 underpasses. Notably, it includes three mountain tunnels totaling over 4,500 meters.

Tunnel 1 (610m) and Tunnel 2 (700m) are complete, with Tunnel 3 (3,200m) classified as a special-grade tunnel. Upon completion, Tunnel 3 will be the longest on the North-South Expressway and the third-longest nationally, following Hai Van and Deo Ca tunnels.

Song Ve Bridge (Dinh Cuong Commune), the project’s longest at 610 meters.

Tunnels 1 and 2 are operational, with technical systems like ventilation, lighting, and fire safety undergoing testing. Tunnel 3 is in the final stages, with 20 jet fans and 1,700 lights (40W-220W) being installed, alongside other safety measures.

Advanced construction methods have optimized geological control, reduced drilling time, and accelerated tunnel reinforcement, ensuring both quality and timely completion. These innovations are key to the project’s early delivery and future operational safety.

Once operational, the expressway will connect to the Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway in the north and the Hoai Nhon – Quy Nhon Expressway in the south, alleviating pressure on National Highway 1A. It will also foster economic growth in the Central Highlands and nationwide by creating a new development corridor.
