On the morning of December 14, 2025, Vietnam’s power sector reached a historic milestone: The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 LNG Power Plants officially commenced commercial operations.

The momentous event was graced by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt joy upon witnessing the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 LNG Power Plants enter commercial operation. These plants represent a crucial “puzzle piece,” strengthening national energy security and meeting the demands of rapid, sustainable development in the new era.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivers a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 LNG Power Plants in Dong Nai Province on December 14, 2025.

At the event, the Prime Minister and other leaders participated in the ceremonial unveiling of the plaque “Project in Celebration of the 14th National Party Congress.”

The commissioning of Vietnam’s first-ever LNG power plant complex—with a total investment of approximately $1.4 billion—has laid the foundation for Vietnam’s gas-fired power market, ensuring a reliable and stable electricity supply.

With a combined capacity of 1,624 Megawatts, the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 plants are expected to generate over 9 billion kWh annually. This marks a significant pioneering achievement in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the nation’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

“For LILAMA, the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 LNG Power Plants are not just energy projects but also a critical test of Vietnamese engineers’ and workers’ capabilities in high-tech gas-fired power construction, particularly with cutting-edge gas turbine technology,” stated Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, CEO of LILAMA, at the December 14, 2025 event. Alongside Samsung C&T, LILAMA serves as the EPC contractor for this billion-dollar project.

Vietnam’s first LNG-fueled power project, marking a pioneering step in the transition from coal to cleaner energy sources, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and the Net Zero goal by 2050.

Vietnam’s largest gas-fired power project to date (1,624 MW), providing essential baseload power for the Southern region.

Vietnam’s highest-capacity power generation unit (one 812 MW unit per plant).

Utilizes GE’s 9HA.02 gas turbines (USA)—the world’s most advanced, high-capacity, and efficient turbines, capable of burning up to 50% hydrogen (with potential for 100% in the future).

Vietnam’s highest operational efficiency (over 62%, with some sources noting 62-64%).
