Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Olympic Sports City project was held in Zone B, Thuong Phuc Commune, Hanoi. This project boasts the largest investment capital among the 234 projects inaugurated, technically launched, and opened nationwide today to celebrate the 14th National Party Congress.

The Olympic Sports City spans over 9,171 hectares across 11 communes and wards, including Dai Thanh, Ngoc Hoi, Nam Phu, Thuong Tin, Hong Van, Chuong Duong, Thuong Phuc, Binh Minh, Tam Hung, Thanh Oai, and Dan Hoa. It is divided into four zones: A, B, C, and D.

Strategically located at the southern gateway of Hanoi, the Olympic Sports City is at the heart of major transportation routes, including Ring Road 3.5, Ring Road 4, National Highway 1A, and the Phap Van – Cau Gie Expressway. Its proximity to Ngoc Hoi Station positions it as a prime hub for sports-centric urban development integrated with modern public transportation. Zone A’s sub-project focuses on developing a new urban area integrated with a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model. It serves as a transportation hub, complementing the international-standard sports complex in Zone B.

Zone B’s sub-project encompasses sports urban development and service urban areas linked to the sports complex. This includes an initial independent sub-project for constructing a parking lot within the sports complex to support the groundbreaking ceremony.

The centerpiece of Zone B is the Trong Dong Stadium, designed to seat up to 135,000 spectators. Inspired by the Dong Son bronze drum and the Lac Bird, it is envisioned as an iconic landmark.

Upon completion, Trong Dong Stadium will be the world’s largest stadium by area. Currently, Vietnam’s largest stadium is My Dinh, with a capacity of 40,000. In October, the Ministry of Public Security began construction on the PVF Stadium in Hung Yen, seating 60,000 on 5.5 hectares, with Vinhomes as the general contractor. Trong Dong Stadium is slated for completion in August 2028.

In addition to Trong Dong Stadium, Zone B features other large-scale projects, including the Global Aquatic Arena, Vietnam Sports Tower, and the E-Sports Super Arena. Much of the project area is currently agricultural land, primarily cultivated with short-term crops by local residents.

Tam Hung Commune is one of four communes within the Olympic Sports City’s Zone B planning area, alongside Thuong Tin, Thuong Phuc, and Dan Hoa.

This area is the focal point for developing sports-centric urban areas and services integrated with the sports complex.

Zone C, covering approximately 4,498 hectares in Ngoc Hoi, Nam Phu, Hong Van, Chuong Duong, Thuong Phuc, and Thuong Tin, is planned to accommodate 280,000 residents.

Zone C is designed to develop as a sports and service-oriented urban area, supporting the international-standard sports complex.

Zone D, spanning approximately 3,743 hectares in Thanh Oai, Tam Hung, and Dan Hoa, is planned for 275,000 residents.

Zone D will focus on developing sports and service-oriented urban areas integrated with the sports complex.

According to the investor, the Olympic Sports City is expected to house approximately 751,000 residents. The project is scheduled to complete the sports complex and stadium by Q2 2030, with full completion by 2035. The goal is to meet the standards for hosting major international and continental sporting events, such as the Asian Games (ASIAD) and the Olympic Games.
