Early this morning (December 23), a massive fire broke out at Xanh Định Công Market (Phương Liệt Ward, Hanoi), engulfing numerous kiosks and causing significant property damage.

Firefighters swiftly mobilized resources to combat the blaze. By 7 AM, the fire was largely under control, though smoldering remnants persisted, warping and collapsing the market’s metal roof in several areas.

Speaking with us, several distraught vendors gathered outside the scene expressed shock and despair as their entire holiday inventory was reduced to ashes in moments.

One vendor lamented, “There was so much stock—every stall had at least 500 million to 1 billion VND worth of goods. My kiosk right here was fully stocked for Tết, and nothing’s been sold yet.”

A bedding store owner shared, “My shop, located just outside, is completely destroyed. The inventory was worth about 1 billion VND. The market has five rows selling everything from household items to clothing. The inner stalls had smaller losses, but the outer kiosks held massive stocks. The fire spread relentlessly, consuming everything. We’ve lost it all—I don’t know what to do. My spouse and I both traded here, and now it’s all gone.”

The bedding store owner speculated the fire likely started at a seafood stall in the middle row due to an electrical short. “It probably began there, then spread to the paper goods stall behind it, eventually engulfing neighboring kiosks.”

Eyewitness Phương Thùy recounted, “The fire started behind the paper goods stall. Smoke appeared around 3:30 AM, and by 4:30 AM, flames erupted. We called the fire department at 4:20 AM and the local police, but the fire was too intense for anyone to escape. It struck so early that no one could react in time.”

Phương Thùy added that with Tết approaching, vendors had stocked heavily, amplifying the devastation. “Thirty-five kiosks were completely destroyed, not to mention the smaller stalls. The vendors are in shock—the losses are overwhelming.”

At approximately 4:10 AM today (December 23), a fire erupted at a kiosk in Xanh Định Công Market (Phương Liệt Ward). Witnesses reported the flames rapidly spreading to adjacent stalls.

By 7 AM, the flames were extinguished, but the kiosks were left in ruins.

Emergency teams ventured deep into the market to suppress the fire and prevent further spread.

The intense blaze ravaged vendors’ goods and property.

The scorching heat warped and collapsed the metal roof, leaving it severely deformed.

Spanning 2,800 square meters with over 100 kiosks, Xanh Market is a bustling hub for Định Công residents.

Hanoi’s Fire and Rescue Police rescued 2,000 square meters of kiosks, including those on Trịnh Đình Cửu Lane 76, Trần Nguyên Đán Street (numbers 24–34), and the substation area.

Preliminary reports indicate the fire began around 4:10 AM at a kiosk in Xanh Định Công Market, quickly spreading to neighboring stalls and intensifying.

Firefighters and local police promptly arrived, deploying multiple fire trucks and specialized equipment to combat the blaze.

By 7 AM, the fire was largely contained, though smoldering spots remained. Authorities continued dismantling stalls and cooling the area to fully extinguish the flames.
