The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has tasked the Department of Construction with preparing a pre-feasibility study report for the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge project, marking a new milestone for this critical infrastructure connecting the Southern region to the Thu Thiem urban area.

The Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is expected to span approximately 2.2 km, with a cross-section width of 28 meters, accommodating 6 vehicle lanes and 2 pedestrian walkways.
Resolving Technical Hurdles with a Proposed 15-Meter Clearance
According to the city’s decision, the Department of Construction is also responsible for reviewing the entire investment preparation process to date. Based on this review, they will advise the People’s Committee on adjusting Decision No. 2846 dated August 23, 2022, regarding the preparation of the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge and the Long Binh Port Cluster – ICD project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The adjustments will be reported to the City Party Committee and its Standing Committee for approval.
Previously, the Department of Construction submitted a proposal addressing the navigational clearance of the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge to resolve technical challenges during the project’s research phase.
Recently, the Department proposed relocating the international passenger port and setting the bridge’s clearance at 15 meters. This solution ensures technical compliance at intersections with Huynh Tan Phat, Nguyen Van Linh, and Nguyen Co Thach roads while minimizing impact on the Thu Thiem New Urban Area’s planning.
The 15-meter clearance is also expected to enhance the Saigon River’s waterfront, fostering connectivity for tourism, cultural, and historical activities. It will facilitate river cruise access to Bach Dang Wharf, Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi Port, and areas upstream of the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge.
Connecting the Southern Region to Thu Thiem Urban Area
Under the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060, the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge will form a vital transportation axis linking Nguyen Van Linh Street with the North-South route within the Thu Thiem urban area.
The project is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion in the Southern region and drive development in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
The Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, with an expected length of 2.2 km and a 28-meter cross-section width, will feature 6 vehicle lanes and 2 pedestrian walkways. Strategically located at the gateway of the Saigon River’s downstream area, it will serve as a crucial link between Southern and Eastern Ho Chi Minh City.
