Recently, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 251 in 2025, outlining phytosanitary requirements for fresh jackfruit imported from Vietnam. The announcement is based on China’s current legal regulations and the Protocol on Fresh Jackfruit Exports signed between GACC and Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Vietnam’s jackfruit is set to gain official approval for formal export to China.

Export Conditions for Jackfruit to China

To ensure smooth customs clearance, all participating orchards and packaging facilities must register and receive approval from authorities in both countries. The list of approved entities will be periodically updated on the GACC website. Before export, Vietnamese authorities will conduct phytosanitary inspections on 2% of shipments. If no violations are detected within a year, this rate may be reduced to 1%.

In 2025, Vietnam and China signed five Protocols for the export of chili, passion fruit, rice bran, raw bird’s nests, and fresh jackfruit.

According to Mr. Huỳnh Tấn Đạt, Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), alongside durian, bananas, rambutan, and watermelon, fresh jackfruit becomes the fifth Vietnamese fruit permitted for large-scale formal export to China. This underscores the sector’s significant role.

It also demonstrates Vietnam’s increasing ability to meet China’s stringent requirements, from phytosanitary measures and food safety to traceability.

By the end of November 2025, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VinaFruit) reported that the country’s fruit and vegetable exports reached approximately USD 7.8 billion, an 18% increase year-on-year.

Mr. Đặng Phúc Nguyên, General Secretary of VinaFruit, predicts that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports could surpass USD 8.5 billion in 2025.
