On December 18th, the People’s Committee of Can Tho City approved the planning task for the Mekong Tourism and Resort Urban Area at a scale of 1:2000. The project spans over 2,954 hectares and is expected to accommodate approximately 300,000 residents.
The study area falls within the administrative boundaries of Chau Thanh, Dong Phuoc, Phu Huu, and Thanh Hoa communes. The planning process is set to be completed within a maximum of 9 months.
The project is envisioned as a modern urban area, serving as a growth hub in southern Can Tho. It aims to expand urban space, enhance living standards, and shift the economic focus toward services and tourism.
The development will follow a tourism and resort model integrated with culture, sports, entertainment, and unique experiential amenities, establishing itself as a premier destination in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region.
The project includes synchronized investment in technical and social infrastructure, ensuring comprehensive urban functions while prioritizing an eco-friendly, smart, climate-resilient, and sustainable low-emission development.
The Can Tho People’s Committee has tasked the city’s Project Management Unit for Civil and Industrial Construction and relevant departments with executing the planning in accordance with the approved objectives.
The Mekong Tourism and Resort Urban Area was previously a key project in Hau Giang Province, with Vingroup (HOSE: VIC) selected to conduct research and develop the planning for investment attraction. The total investment is estimated at 6.2 billion USD, with completion targeted by 2030.
Following its merger with Hau Giang and Soc Trang in early July, Can Tho has emerged as the largest urban center in the Mekong Delta, attracting significant investor interest in various projects.
In addition to the aforementioned project, Alphanam Group has proposed several real estate, urban area, and social housing initiatives, including the Mai Dam River New Urban Area (nearly 140 hectares) and the 927C Urban Area (657 hectares); a residential and hotel complex on Le Loi Street, Cai Khe Ward (6.24 hectares); the Vo Van Kiet Road New Urban Area Zone 1, Long Tuyen Ward (270 hectares); and a social housing project in the An Binh Ward resettlement area – Component 2 (1.51 hectares)…
