On the afternoon of December 25, during the regular press conference on the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vu Anh Dung, Deputy Head of Urban Development Department (Department of Construction), stated that in recent times, the Road Management Center has requested Phu My Construction Investment Corporation—the investor—to repair road damages on Nguyen Van Quy Street, Tan Thuan Ward, and Phu Thuan Ward. However, Phu My Construction Investment Corporation instructed the contractor to carry out repairs and rectify infrastructure defects with significant delays, prolonging the process and compromising traffic safety in the area.
As a result, the Department of Construction has further urged Phu My Construction Investment Corporation to promptly and thoroughly address all infrastructure defects, enhance road cleanliness, and ensure proper waste collection to minimize dust on Nguyen Van Quy Street.
The Department also mandates the swift installation of barriers under the bridge to prevent residents from encroaching on the bridge area for parking, trading, or material storage, which poses safety risks and detracts from urban aesthetics.
Additionally, the Specialized Inspection Division of the Department of Construction will intensify inspections and impose penalties as per regulations. Meanwhile, the People’s Committees of Tan Thuan Ward and Phu Thuan Ward will direct relevant units to inspect, educate, mobilize, and enforce measures against waste accumulation under the bridge within their managed areas.
According to the Department of Construction, the section of Nguyen Van Quy Street (from Huynh Tan Phat Street to the Fruit and Vegetable Port) in Tan Thuan Ward and Phu Thuan Ward is currently managed by the Road Management Center and Phu My Construction Investment Corporation—the investor.
Through on-site surveys and media reports, this street has been identified with numerous issues, including severely deteriorated road surfaces, potholes, and pervasive dust, which adversely affect traffic safety and public health.
