The Ngoc Hoi Bridge, a pivotal project connecting Hanoi and Hung Yen, commenced construction in August 2025 with an investment exceeding 11.8 trillion VND.

This cable-stayed bridge spans approximately 680 meters across the Red River, featuring two H-shaped towers that symbolize the collaboration between Hanoi and Hung Yen.

The bridge’s design not only enhances architectural aesthetics but also serves as a functional link between the two provinces.

Spanning a total length of 7.5 kilometers, the Ngoc Hoi Bridge includes a 5.2-kilometer section in Hanoi and a 2.3-kilometer section in Hung Yen. With a width of 38 meters, it accommodates six vehicle lanes and two mixed lanes, directly connecting Hanoi’s Ring Road 3.5 to Hung Yen’s Left Hong Dyke Road. The bridge also features parallel roads on both sides, ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The Ngoc Hoi Bridge is one of seven bridge projects launched by Hanoi in 2025 to enhance connectivity with neighboring provinces, alleviate traffic congestion, and support regional economic development.

Four months into construction, the site is bustling with activity as contractors deploy machinery, barges, ships, and construction materials to expedite the project.

Workers are currently installing bored piles for the two main towers and clearing a 1-kilometer section in Van Giang commune, with plans to complete 40 piles by March 2026.

Construction teams are also welding approach roads and building parallel roads alongside the bridge to ensure comprehensive connectivity.

The Ngoc Hoi Bridge and its approach roads are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028, significantly improving transportation between Hanoi and Hung Yen.

Once Ring Road 3.5 and the Ngoc Hoi Bridge are operational, they will directly connect Hanoi and Hung Yen, integrating seamlessly with the city’s radial roads. This will redirect traffic from the north and northwest to the southeast, bypassing the city center and reducing congestion on existing routes like Ring Road 3, Giai Phong Street, and Road 70.

The Ngoc Hoi Bridge is poised to become a strategic link, fostering economic and social development in the southern part of Hanoi and the southeastern region of the capital.

Hanoi currently has nine bridges crossing the Red River, including Thang Long, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri, Nhat Tan, Vinh Thinh, Long Bien, Van Lang, and Trung Ha. By 2030, with a vision to 2050, the city plans to add nine more bridges, including the Ngoc Hoi Bridge on Ring Road 3.5, along with projects like Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, Van Phuc, Hong Ha, Me So, the new Thang Long Bridge, Thuong Cat, and Phu Xuyen. This expansion will enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable economic growth across the region.

The Ngoc Hoi Bridge is expected to play a crucial role in connecting Hanoi with new urban areas and neighboring provinces such as Hung Yen, Ha Nam, and Bac Ninh, driving economic and social development in the southern and southeastern regions of the capital.

With its strategic location and modern design, the Ngoc Hoi Bridge will not only improve transportation but also contribute to the overall development of the region, ensuring a brighter future for both Hanoi and its neighboring provinces.
