On the afternoon of December 25th, the leadership of Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee held a meeting with Sun Group’s executives to discuss the planning concept for the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area.
Following the signing of the “Memorandum of Cooperation on the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area Project” with Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee in September 2025, this marks the first time Sun Group has presented its comprehensive planning vision for the project.
Spanning approximately 1,000 hectares and inspired by the ancient Vietnamese legend of King Tay, the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area is located in Dam Thuy Commune, Cao Bang Province, Vietnam. The project aims for sustainable development, blending experiential tourism, community culture, and cross-border exchanges.

The project aims to transform the area into an international tourism destination, with each zone linked to local legends and folklore. It will showcase the beauty of Ban Gioc Waterfall, Quay Son River, and Nguom Ngao Cave, while celebrating Vietnam’s rice civilization and spiritual culture through architectural marvels, artistic performances, experiential tourism products, and world-class hospitality services.
Positioned as a Green Heritage Borderland, the project is expected to attract 1.5 million visitors annually once the highway expansion is completed, with projections reaching 4 million visitors within five years. This is set to significantly boost the local economy and social development.
In 2025, Cao Bang welcomed over 2.5 million visitors, including nearly 96,000 international tourists, with total tourism revenue exceeding 2.5 trillion VND. These figures are considered underwhelming given the “Cao Bang’s Landscapes” brand potential on both national and international tourism maps.

During the meeting, Mr. Phan Thang An, Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee, expressed high appreciation for the planning concept of the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Area. He hopes it will become a landmark project, propelling Cao Bang into the international tourism spotlight, not just domestically.
“Cao Bang is rich in natural resources and tourism potential but lacks investors with sufficient vision and decisive action. While the government plays a developmental role, we need leading corporations to guide and ensure benefits for the local population, creating a new symbol for Vietnamese tourism,” emphasized the Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee.
Given its unique border location adjacent to China’s Duc Thien Tourism Area, Ban Gioc Waterfall is Vietnam’s only destination implementing a visa-free cross-border tourism model, making it highly attractive to international visitors.
