Recently, the Ministry of Construction issued Decision No. 2405/QĐ-BXD, granting Sun Airway Corporation (SAC), a subsidiary of Sun Group, the business license to operate Phu Quoc International Airport. This decision takes effect from 00:00 on January 1, 2026.

Headquartered at the Sale Center Conference Hall in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, Kien Giang Province, SAC will assume the role of managing and operating Phu Quoc International Airport in the Duong To area.

SAC is tasked with comprehensive management, operation, exploitation, and maintenance of the airport’s infrastructure, ensuring seamless, secure, and uninterrupted operations in compliance with Vietnamese aviation laws and related regulations.

This development aligns with Phu Quoc’s selection as the host for the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum. In late June 2025, the Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee designated SAC as the lead investor for the airport’s expansion project, spanning 1,050 hectares and adhering to ICAO 4E standards. The project aims to increase the airport’s capacity to 20 million passengers annually.

Notably, the expansion is among the five projects on track or ahead of schedule out of 21 prioritized initiatives for APEC 2027.

SAC has accelerated key components, including the second runway, international terminal T2, VIP terminal, expanded apron, and auxiliary infrastructure.

These enhancements not only support APEC but also lay the groundwork for Phu Quoc’s vision as a competitive international maritime city and regional tourism hub.
