With the official opening of the N2 overpass branch at the An Phú interchange, travel between Eastern Ho Chi Minh City and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway will become seamless, significantly reducing congestion and conflicts at this gateway area.

The N2 overpass at An Phú interchange will officially open and operate on December 31, 2025.

Eliminating Traffic Crossings

According to the traffic organization plan, the N2 overpass branch is a one-way route for vehicles traveling from the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway to turn right onto Mai Chí Thọ Avenue.

Specifically, vehicles traveling on the expressway that need to access Mai Chí Thọ Avenue and the Vo Nguyen Giap axis in Eastern HCMC will stay close to the left median strip, cross Ba Dat Bridge (2 lanes), and then merge onto the N2 overpass, which consists of 2 lanes.

From there, vehicles will directly turn right onto Mai Chí Thọ Avenue, eliminating the need to circle around or wait at traffic signals as before.

This traffic flow separates vehicles coming from the expressway to Eastern HCMC, preventing intersections with other traffic streams at the An Phú interchange.

Commuters traveling from Dong Nai and the former Thu Duc City to Mai Chí Thọ Avenue, Vo Nguyen Giap, Thu Thiem Tunnel, or HCMC’s city center will experience smoother journeys, reduced travel times through the interchange, and significantly lower congestion risks during peak hours.

Official Operation Starts December 31, 2025

Speaking with Người Lao Động Newspaper, Mr. Lê Ngọc Hùng, Deputy Director of the HCMC Transportation Works Construction Investment Management Board, stated that the investor is maximizing manpower and equipment to complete the final stages of the N2 overpass branch, including lane markings, sign installation, and traffic safety system enhancements.

Construction progress has reached over 95%, with official operation scheduled for December 31, 2025.

The HC1-02 underpass, connecting the expressway to Mai Chí Thọ Avenue and Thu Thiem Tunnel, is also accelerating construction.

Simultaneously, the HC1-02 underpass, connecting the expressway to Mai Chí Thọ Avenue and Thu Thiem Tunnel, is accelerating construction. The 760-meter underpass, with a capacity of 4 lanes in both directions, has completed most of its main structure. Once these projects are operational, the An Phú interchange will form an interconnected network, enabling safer and smoother travel between Mai Chí Thọ Avenue and the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.

The Transportation Management Board advises that during the initial operation period, due to new traffic arrangements and unfamiliarity, commuters should carefully observe signs and slow down when merging or diverging to ensure safety.
