On December 24th, Hanoi’s official electronic portal announced that after one month of resuming construction on the extended Nguyen Canh Di road, contractors have completed 300 meters of the road’s foundation on the right side heading southbound. However, land clearance efforts remain stalled, requiring urgent acceleration to ensure project timelines are met and to finally end the years-long ordeal of this “road of suffering.”
On November 25th, Hanoi’s Department of Construction issued Document No. 1358/TB-SXD, outlining traffic rerouting plans to facilitate the construction of a 600-meter stretch of Nguyen Canh Di Road from Song Lu Bridge to Dinh Cong Bridge. This marks the second time in two years that traffic has been rerouted for construction on this road, with the current phase scheduled from November 25th to April 30th, 2026.

Following one month of resumed work, contractors have completed roughly 300 meters of the road’s foundation on the right side from Dinh Cong Bridge to Bridge 36, significantly improving travel conditions for residents. However, unless land clearance efforts are intensified for the remaining sections, the road cannot be fully constructed, and patchwork repairs will persist due to the inability to install underground infrastructure.
Specifically, the area requiring land clearance spans 218 meters and involves 34 households. To date, 14 households have received compensation, while 20 have not yet relinquished their land. Among these, 16 households have approved compensation plans but have not received payment, and 4 households are still awaiting compensation plans.
On October 5th, the People’s Committee of Dinh Cong Ward verified the land use status map for the project, enabling the preparation of detailed 1/500-scale planning adjustments. Additionally, a compensation, support, and resettlement council has been established for the expanded Bac Dai Kim Urban Area project to advance both the overall project and the specific road segment within it.
The People’s Committee of Dinh Cong Ward is actively focusing on clearing the land for the extended Nguyen Canh Di Road and handing it over to the investor for construction in accordance with the planning.
HANHUD (Hanoi Housing and Urban Development Company), the project investor, stated that they have prepared the necessary funds for compensation and are ready to disburse payments once the local authorities provide the list of recipients.
