Recently, residents of Hanoi have been reporting a surge in suspicious calls and messages from unknown numbers, employing highly sophisticated scam tactics. Imposters often pose as employees of Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), notifying customers of localized power outages or requesting cooperation to resolve technical issues. Alarmingly, these scams go beyond data harvesting, redirecting victims to premium-rate numbers to steal money and inflate telecom charges.

The most prevalent tactic involves fraudsters impersonating EVNHANOI staff, demanding personal details or bank account information under the guise of verifying incidents, refunding service fees, or enrolling in new promotional programs. Some victims are even instructed to call fake customer service hotlines, such as 1900.292900, which charge exorbitant rates of up to 8,000 VND per minute, causing financial harm and public anxiety.

In response, Hanoi Power Corporation has issued an official statement to protect consumers. EVNHANOI confirms that its sole official customer service hotline is 19001288, operating 24/7 to address all customer needs, from meter readings and technical issues to billing inquiries. Any other numbers claiming to represent EVNHANOI are unauthorized and pose a high fraud risk.

EVNHANOI emphasizes that its staff never requests sensitive information such as app passwords, OTP codes, bank account details, or personal documents via phone or text. Any such requests through unofficial channels are clear indicators of telecom fraud, requiring heightened vigilance from the public.

As online public services expand, residents must remain alert and learn to identify scams. When receiving suspicious calls, stay calm, ignore instructions, and avoid clicking unknown links. Immediately hang up and contact the official hotline at 19001288 for verification.

Regularly update information through official channels like the EVNHANOI website, app, or Facebook page to avoid falling victim to cybercriminals.
