On January 5th, the Can Tho Department of Health provided updates on the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project (500-bed capacity) and the procurement of two radiation therapy machines as directed by the Prime Minister.

Can Tho City is expediting procedures to restart the Oncology Hospital project.

According to the Department of Health, on November 14, 2025, the City Council approved the resolution to adjust the investment policy for the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project (located in An Binh Ward). Currently, the investor is urgently completing the project adjustment procedures as required.

This includes issuing approvals for adjustments, supplementing the procurement plan for tender packages related to project adjustments; selecting consultants for feasibility studies and equipment cost appraisal; and holding meetings with the joint venture contractors to address challenges and restart the project.

Regarding the Linear Accelerator (LINAC) project, the Can Tho Department of Health has signed a contract with MEGA Medical Equipment Joint Stock Company for the supply and installation of equipment under Package No. 06. The installation is expected to be completed by March 3rd.

In the first quarter of 2026, the Can Tho Department of Health will focus on accelerating the progress of the Can Tho Oncology Hospital construction project and the procurement of linear accelerators for the hospital, as directed by the Prime Minister.

Previously, on December 31, 2025, Can Tho Oncology Hospital held a ceremony to inaugurate the on-demand medical examination and treatment area, take over the Phong Dien facility, and launch the CT-ultrasound-endoscope system, along with receiving a sponsored car.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vo Van Kha, Director of Can Tho Oncology Hospital, stated that the construction and inauguration of the on-demand medical examination and treatment area with modern facilities will partially meet patient needs. The hospital has also received city investment, completing the procurement of two radiation therapy machines (worth 260 billion VND).

The hospital officially took over the former Phong Dien Medical Center to provide medical services to residents in Phong Dien and reduce the burden on Can Tho Oncology Hospital (located in Ninh Kieu District).

The Can Tho Oncology Hospital construction project will also be restarted, with an expected completion date in 2026. Once the facilities are completed, they will have a capacity of 1,200 beds, serving patients in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region.
