Following user reports of rapid battery drain after upgrading to One UI 8 (based on Android 16), Samsung has introduced a new power management solution to optimize battery life across Galaxy devices.
According to user feedback, several models, including the Galaxy S25, Z Fold, and Galaxy Watch, have experienced excessive battery consumption even during idle periods. Screen-on time has significantly decreased, while devices continue to draw power in standby mode.
The root cause of this issue is attributed to background applications. On One UI 8, numerous apps maintain active network connections, sync data, or check for updates continuously, leading to silent battery drain during daily use.

To address this, Samsung has enhanced background app control through the Sleeping Apps feature. Unlike traditional battery-saving modes that limit system-wide performance, One UI 8 identifies infrequently used apps and automatically restricts their activity.
This feature is accessible via Settings > Battery > Background Usage Limits. Once enabled, the system analyzes usage patterns and places suitable apps into a “sleep” state, reducing power consumption even when the device is idle.
In addition to automatic mode, users can manually categorize apps into Regular Sleep or Deep Sleep groups. Deep Sleep completely halts background activity until the app is manually opened.
Samsung also allows users to designate a list of “Always Active” apps, ensuring uninterrupted notifications and data for critical applications like messaging, work emails, and cloud services. This balance maintains essential functionality without significantly compromising battery life.
After configuring these options, many users have reported improved device endurance without needing to lower screen brightness, disable connections, or manually enable battery-saving modes.
