The Ministry of Construction has recently approved the master plan for Tuy Hoa Airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050. This plan focuses on expanding infrastructure, constructing a new Terminal 2, and adding a second runway, gradually increasing the airport's capacity to 5 million passengers annually.

According to the master plan approved by the Ministry of Construction, Tuy Hoa Airport is a domestic airport, part of the national civil aviation network, serving both civilian and military purposes. The total land requirement for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, is approximately 672.74 hectares.

During the 2021-2030 phase, Tuy Hoa Airport is planned to achieve ICAO’s 4C standard, with a capacity of around 3 million passengers annually. The airport can accommodate aircraft types such as Airbus A320, A321, Boeing 737, and equivalents, utilizing a simplified landing approach.

Regarding the runway, the existing 03/21 runway will be retained during this phase. The aircraft parking area will be expanded from its current state to accommodate approximately 11 parking positions, with reserved land for further expansion as demand increases.

For terminal infrastructure, a new passenger terminal, T2, will be constructed southwest of the existing T1 terminal, with a capacity of around 3 million passengers per year. Cargo operations will continue to be handled within Terminal T1.

By 2050, Tuy Hoa Airport will maintain its ICAO 4C classification but increase its capacity to approximately 5 million passengers annually, continuing to serve aircraft types like A320, A321, B737, and equivalents.

Notably, the plan includes the addition of a second runway measuring 2,660 m x 45 m, located approximately 305 m southeast of the existing runway, with standard technical margins. The aircraft parking area will be further expanded to accommodate up to 18 parking positions, meeting long-term operational demands.

Terminal T2 will be expanded to increase its capacity to around 5 million passengers annually. Additionally, a dedicated cargo terminal will be constructed in the northeastern area, with a capacity of approximately 3,500 tons of cargo per year.

The Ministry of Construction has tasked the Vietnam Aviation Administration (VAA) with studying and incorporating the review report from the Planning and Finance Department to finalize the master plan. The VAA will also fulfill its state management responsibilities in subsequent stages.

The VAA will lead and coordinate with the People’s Committee of Dak Lak Province and relevant agencies to announce, manage, and implement the master plan as required. It will also collaborate with units under the Ministry of Defense and local authorities to review and update defense land use planning and local planning, ensuring alignment across sectoral and regional plans.

Previously, the VAA noted that the master plan for Tuy Hoa Airport until 2015, with a vision to 2025, approved by the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction), projected a capacity of 460,000 passengers and 2,000 tons of cargo annually by 2025, with the ability to handle 4 aircraft simultaneously during peak hours. However, by 2024, passenger traffic at Tuy Hoa Airport had already exceeded 432,000 passengers annually, surpassing the approved capacity target.
