On the afternoon of January 8th, a source from Dan Tri newspaper revealed that test results from specialized agencies indicated multiple samples of raw pork at the warehouse of Halong Canned Food Joint Stock Company (in Hai Phong) tested positive for the African Swine Fever virus.

Notably, samples of canned products made from this pork were also tested. Several processed samples still contained the African Swine Fever virus.

In response, a Hai Phong inter-agency task force collaborated with the company to seal the warehouse and dispose of approximately 130 tons of raw pork and several tons of canned products, ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.

The source revealed that all pork supplied to the company in this case originated from illegal slaughterhouses, without proper veterinary inspection permits.

The fact that a large quantity of unsafe meat was supplied to a reputable company raises concerns about the company’s raw material inspection process.

Authorities discovered African Swine Fever-infected pigs supplied by third-party vendors at Halong Canned Food Company’s warehouse.

According to Tien Phong Online, Halong Canned Food Company (Halong Canfoco) issued a statement regarding the discovery of African Swine Fever-infected pigs used for food processing.

The company asserted that all nine individuals arrested and prosecuted were external parties, with no affiliation to the company’s employees, managers, or staff.

The company was implicated due to accepting raw materials based on complete and valid documentation provided by the seller, issued by competent state authorities. This has been acknowledged by authorities during their investigation.

Upon discovering the issue in September 2025, Halong Canfoco promptly reported and cooperated with authorities throughout the investigation. They also isolated and disposed of the non-compliant raw materials as required by law.

The company has since reviewed its entire raw material control process and supplier selection, enhancing risk prevention measures in its supply chain.

The company acknowledges this as a severe supply chain incident, impacting its short-term reputation and operations.

However, the company clarified that the non-compliant raw materials were never used in production or distributed to the market.

“All products currently on the market fully comply with food safety regulations and are strictly monitored according to internal procedures,” stated Halong Canfoco.

The factory maintains certifications such as ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 and is regularly inspected by relevant authorities.

The case remains under investigation. Halong Canned Food Company is awaiting the final investigation conclusions regarding the responsibilities of all involved parties.
