Mazda CX-5 Dominates Vietnam’s Compact SUV Segment: Record Sales Leave Ford Territory with No Comeback Chance

The Mazda CX-5 closed out 2025 with a remarkable performance, surpassing 2,000 units sold in December alone. This impressive feat all but solidified its dominance in the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment.

The Mazda CX-5 achieved record-breaking sales, surpassing 2,000 units in December 2025, marking its highest monthly performance in Vietnam’s mid-size SUV segment since the year’s beginning.

According to Mazda Vietnam, this milestone extends the CX-5’s growth streak in the final months of the year, outperforming the 1,766 units sold in November. This surge coincides with the peak year-end shopping season, particularly for mid-size SUVs.

This year-end acceleration brings the CX-5’s total 2025 sales close to 17,000 units, solidifying its leadership in Vietnam’s mid-size SUV market. It remains Mazda’s top-selling model in the country.

Market dynamics, coupled with dealership incentives and price adjustments, have significantly boosted the CX-5’s performance. Recent transaction prices are notably lower than earlier in the year, enhancing its competitiveness against rivals.

Ford Territory’s chances of overtaking the CX-5 in 2025 sales are slim. As of November 2025, Territory recorded 11,124 units sold. To surpass the CX-5, it would need to sell over 7,000 units in December alone—an unlikely feat in Vietnam’s market, even during peak season.

In the mid-size SUV segment, the CX-5 competes with the Ford Territory, Hyundai Tucson, Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sportage, and Honda CR-V. However, Mazda’s CX-5 is poised to retain its segment leadership for another year.

Currently, the Mazda CX-5 is available in Vietnam with multiple gasoline-powered variants, targeting families and individual buyers.

The next-generation Mazda CX-5 is slated for a late 2026 Vietnam launch. Previewed as a Japanese import at a Mazda Vietnam event, it’s rumored to feature a hybrid powertrain, larger dimensions, and a premium price of approximately VND 1.1 billion. Official specifications remain pending.
