According to the Hanoi Tourism Department, during the 4-day New Year holiday in 2026 (from January 1st to January 4th), Hanoi welcomed approximately 560,000 visitors, including around 110,000 international tourists and 450,000 domestic travelers. This marks a record-breaking figure compared to previous New Year holidays. Total tourism revenue during this period in the capital is estimated at 2.1 trillion VND, a 254% increase from the same period last year.
The Hanoi Tourism Department attributes this significant growth in visitor numbers and revenue to the longer holiday duration compared to the previous year. This allowed residents and tourists to better plan their leisure, sightseeing, and travel activities in Hanoi. Additionally, the city’s tourism offerings have become more diverse and appealing.
Notable events in Hanoi during the holiday included fireworks displays at 5 locations with 6 launch sites across the city, a spectacular New Year’s welcome at Hoan Kiem Lake, 3D mapping shows, artistic light installations, and cultural heritage tours, offering a vibrant and engaging experience for visitors.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department, over the 4-day holiday, tourist attractions in the city welcomed approximately 1.24 million visitors, with 75,726 international arrivals. Hotel occupancy rates reached around 75%, and tourism revenue is estimated at 2.632 trillion VND. This is the highest revenue nationwide during this New Year holiday.
Tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City during the holiday primarily opted for city tours, short trips, and cultural-culinary experiences, with a high proportion of individual and small group travelers.
The Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department reported that during this New Year holiday, central areas such as the Nguyen Hue – Ben Bach Dang pedestrian street and the Saigon River Park attracted large crowds for New Year celebrations and street art performances, as well as river tours. Ben Thanh Market and major shopping centers like Saigon Centre, Takashimaya, and Vincom Dong Khoi were also bustling with shoppers and food enthusiasts.
In Binh Duong, tourism activities showed positive signs, primarily driven by domestic visitors and short-term travelers to Dai Nam Tourist Park. Eco-tourism sites, community-based tourism, and weekend entertainment spots in Di An, Thuan An, and Ben Cat also catered to the leisure needs of locals and nearby residents.
Thus, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City alone generated nearly 5 trillion VND in tourism revenue during the 4-day holiday.
