According to Car News China, BYD has officially discontinued the Sealion 6 hybrid SUV (known domestically as the Song Plus) from its local product lineup.

The model has been removed from BYD’s Ocean Network sales website, paving the way for its successor, the Sealion 06, which boasts design upgrades and advanced technology.

This shift comes as BYD achieved a historic milestone in 2025, selling over 1 million vehicles internationally for the first time.

While the Sealion 6 is no longer available in its home market, BYD continues to produce and market the vehicle globally, maintaining its presence in international markets.

The BYD Sealion 6 will remain available in international markets through official distribution channels.

In 2025, the Sealion 6 and its variants remained highly popular, with the Song Plus achieving over 400,000 sales in China before its discontinuation.

The broader Song product line, including various derivatives, contributed nearly 790,000 units to BYD’s total sales, accounting for approximately 17% of the company’s overall sales. By October 2025, global deliveries of the Sealion 6 and its equivalents surpassed 1.5 million units.

In Southeast Asia, BYD’s Thai manufacturing facility has become a key production hub, with cumulative output exceeding 70,000 vehicles.

This facility not only meets local demand but also supports exports to neighboring regions. In European markets such as Germany and the UK, the Sealion 6 maintains steady sales. Even in Japan, the SUV is positioned as a premium offering, attracting significant interest from buyers.

Retaining the Sealion 6 for export markets allows BYD to optimize production lines and capitalize on the model’s popularity in regions at the early stages of electrification.

The all-electric Sealion 06, equipped with cutting-edge technology, will replace its hybrid predecessor in China’s domestic market.

Meanwhile, the launch of the Sealion 06 in China strengthens BYD’s competitive edge against domestic rivals with its latest innovations. The strategy of differentiating product lines between domestic and international markets highlights BYD’s flexibility in portfolio management.

In Vietnam, the supply of the Sealion 6 is expected to remain unaffected by its discontinuation in China. BYD’s Thai assembly plant is accelerating production to meet delivery schedules for Vietnamese customers.

In Vietnam, the BYD Sealion 6 is offered in two variants: Dynamic, priced at 839 million VND, and Premium, priced at 936 million VND.
