On January 7th, the Hai Phong City Police Investigation Agency announced the completion of an investigation into a severe food safety violation at a renowned food processing company in the area. Authorities discovered a large quantity of substandard pork being stockpiled for use in canned food production. The storage location was identified as a warehouse belonging to Halong Canned Food Joint Stock Company.

During the inspection, authorities recorded a total of 120 tons of pork stored in the warehouse. Alarmingly, all the meat tested positive for African Swine Fever.

The batch showed signs of spoilage, leakage, and foul odor, failing to meet basic standards for food processing ingredients. More critically,

approximately 2 tons of this meat had already been processed and packaged into finished canned meat products.

Expanding the investigation into the origin of the batch, the Hai Phong City Police Investigation Agency for Corruption, Economic, and Smuggling Crimes uncovered the supply chain. According to the confession of Nguyen Thi Lan (residing in Dong Hung commune, Hung Yen province), a key figure in the collection network, this operation had been ongoing for approximately six months.

Lan admitted to directly purchasing diseased pigs from farmers and selling them to larger distributors, though she claimed ignorance of the final destination of the meat until the Halong warehouse incident was exposed.

Upon determining the severity of the case, authorities took immediate legal action. The entire 120 tons of contaminated pork and related products were destroyed to prevent disease spread and protect consumer health.

Legally, the Investigation Agency has pressed charges against nine individuals involved in violating food safety regulations. The Hai Phong City Police continues to investigate to determine the responsibility of individuals and entities involved in the company’s quality control process.
