According to the Vietnam Aviation Authority, during the 2026 New Year holiday period (from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026), the total transportation volume across the market reached 1.33 million passengers and 16.36 thousand tons of cargo, representing a 22.16% increase in passengers and a 6.04% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year.

Domestic transportation accounted for 522.08 thousand passengers and 2.6 thousand tons of cargo (a 22.9% increase in passengers and a 21.38% decrease in cargo), while international transportation reached 804.7 thousand passengers and 13.76 thousand tons of cargo (a 21.69% increase in passengers and a 13.52% increase in cargo).
The total operational volume at airports reached 11,404 takeoffs and landings (TOL), 1.85 million passengers, and 18.96 thousand tons of cargo, representing a 19.83% increase in TOL, a 22.37% increase in passengers, and a 1.2% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year.
Domestically, there were 6,632 TOL, 1.04 million passengers, and 5.2 thousand tons of cargo (a 22.11% increase in TOL, a 22.9% increase in passengers, and a 21.38% decrease in cargo). Internationally, there were 4,772 TOL, 804.7 thousand passengers, and 13.76 thousand tons of cargo (a 16.79% increase in TOL, a 21.69% increase in passengers, and a 13.52% increase in cargo).
The total operational volume at the three major international airports was as follows: Tan Son Nhat recorded 3,860 TOL, 664.61 thousand passengers, and 6.36 thousand tons of cargo (a 15.6% increase in TOL, a 20.97% increase in passengers, and a 14.45% decrease in cargo). Noi Bai recorded 3,226 TOL, 521.73 thousand passengers, and 11.38 thousand tons of cargo (a 25.92% increase in TOL, a 30.48% increase in passengers, and a 15.9% increase in cargo). Da Nang recorded 1,466 TOL, 251.24 thousand passengers, and 409.3 tons of cargo (a 28.71% increase in TOL, a 33.1% increase in passengers, and a 24.29% decrease in cargo).
The total transportation volume of Vietnamese airlines during the New Year holiday period reached 831.38 thousand passengers and 4.82 thousand tons of cargo, representing a 22.13% increase in passengers and a 14.14% decrease in cargo compared to the same period last year.
Domestically, there were 522.08 thousand passengers and 2.6 thousand tons of cargo (a 22.9% increase in passengers and a 21.38% decrease in cargo). Internationally, there were 309.3 thousand passengers and 2.22 thousand tons of cargo (a 20.85% increase in passengers and a 3.78% decrease in cargo).
Assessing air transportation, passenger services, and aviation security during the 2026 New Year holiday period, Director Uong Viet Dung stated that all units in the aviation sector strictly adhered to on-duty protocols, maintained security and safety checks, and ensured service quality. This ensured continuous and smooth operations.
Emerging issues at airports were promptly addressed by competent authorities, with no security or safety breaches reported. Passenger services for delayed, disrupted, or canceled flights were handled in accordance with regulations.
Overall, air transportation during this period achieved higher growth compared to the same period last year across all three key metrics (number of flights, passenger volume, and cargo volume), effectively meeting the travel demands of citizens and tourists.
