China Launches Anti-Dumping Probe into Japanese Dichlorosilane Imports

According to Reuters, dichlorosilane is a critical chemical essential for producing modern memory chips and logic chips.

China’s Ministry of Commerce initiated this investigation following a complaint filed by Sunfar Tangshan Electronic Materials Co., representing domestic Chinese manufacturers, in late 2025.

Chinese authorities will scrutinize trade activities during two specific periods. The anti-dumping investigation will cover the period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Simultaneously, the investigation into the impact on domestic production will span from early 2022 to mid-2025. The entire process is expected to conclude by January 7, 2027.

Data from the complaint reveals a significant increase in dichlorosilane imports from Japan to China between 2022 and 2024. Alongside this surge, prices from Japanese suppliers plummeted by a cumulative 31%.

Chinese manufacturers argue that this abnormal price drop has severely undermined the competitiveness and financial health of domestic enterprises.

This investigation follows Beijing’s recent restrictions on dual-use exports to Japan. Analysts view this as a strategic response to Japan’s own restrictions on China’s semiconductor industry.

Targeting dichlorosilane highlights China’s efforts to reduce reliance on external sources for critical upstream materials in the high-tech supply chain.

Financial markets reacted differently in both countries. In Japan, shares of major chemical companies like Shin-Etsu Chemical and Mitsubishi Chemical declined upon the announcement.

Conversely, Chinese chemical companies saw a positive uptick in stock prices, driven by expectations of gaining domestic market share.

These developments underscore the increasing complexity of the semiconductor material supply chain amid evolving trade policies.
