According to a local resident, in December 2025, he visited a Toyota dealership in Da Nang to purchase a gasoline-powered Yaris Cross, priced at 662 million VND. The dealership scheduled the delivery for January 2026.
Recently, when the customer proceeded with the necessary procedures to receive the car, the dealership informed him of an increase in the registration fee by over 8.5 million VND compared to December 2025 (from 65.67 million to 74.2 million VND).

The dealership explained that the registration fee of over 74.2 million VND was based on the old announced price of the Toyota Yaris Cross. Since April 1, 2024, Toyota has reduced the price of this model from 742 million VND to 662 million VND. However, it remains unclear why the Da Nang Tax Department applied the old price for the registration fee.
According to official announcements, in 2026, the basic registration fee for cars with 9 seats or less remains at 10% for the first registration, but the taxable price is determined by the Provincial/City People’s Committee based on market prices (with a maximum increase of 50%). A 2% fee applies for subsequent registrations.
The dealership stated that Toyota Vietnam is working with the General Department of Taxation to address the significant increase in fees in Da Nang.
On December 29, 2025, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, signed a decision to issue the registration fee calculation table for cars and motorcycles in the city.
In the registration fee calculation table for cars and motorcycles in Da Nang, the Toyota Yaris Cross is not listed. Meanwhile, some other models are taxed based on their old, unadjusted prices.
For example, the Toyota Vios E CVT was reduced from 528 million VND to 488 million VND on March 1, 2024. Since then, the registration fee has also decreased accordingly. However, in 2026, Da Nang applied the old price for the registration fee calculation.
Similarly, the Toyota Veloz Cross TOP’s list price was reduced from 698 million VND to 660 million VND in March 2024. Yet, Da Nang applied the old price for the registration fee calculation, resulting in a 3.8 million VND increase in January 2026 compared to December 2025.
Notably, for the same Toyota Yaris Cross model, buyers in neighboring localities such as Hue City and Quang Ngai Province in January 2026 were only charged a registration fee of 65.67 million VND.
On January 9, speaking with a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Bui Khanh Toan, Director of the Da Nang Tax Department, stated that registration fees for cars are determined based on market prices.
Mr. Toan affirmed that he would direct a review of the reported information. If any errors are found in the application of registration fee calculations, he will advise the Da Nang People’s Committee to make appropriate adjustments to protect the rights of local residents.
